It's fine. I liked it (but didn't love it)
Revisado: 05-24-24
The struggle to overcome personal traumas occupied to large a percentage of the book imo. It is an important part of the story for sure and a clear point of emphasis for RA, but I mostly enjoyed hearing about his college baseball life, time in the minors, and long journey to the Majors, and later working with Hough, Niekro, and Wake to hone his knuckleball. His baseball journey is such an interesting one and it felt a shame to me that he ends the narration before he even gets to his best season, 2012. I wanted to hear about that and his subsequent move to Toronto and then how it started to fall apart in his 40s... So yeah, I enjoyed what he gave us but also felt that it could have been better...

Superb.

Well-written, organized, taut, exciting, sad narrative. Loved the 3 narrator system as this really does feel like 3 separate stories. Can't wait to see how Scorsese adapts this...

Well worth it. Excellent first try at Dostoevsky.
Revisado: 02-19-23
This was my first try at Dostoevsky and I loved it! Accessible to modern audiences in a way I dont always feel in the older classics. I listened to it sometimes up to 2hrs at a time without tiring or losing concentration. Gripping story. Excellent from 1st page to last. Never loses you in the middle or starts to ramble.
Regarding the narration, Heald is one of my favorite narrators. His reading of Moby Dick was so helpful in grabbing my interest right from the start and keeping me locked into what is undoubtedly an intimidating read for most. The same applies here in his reading of C&P. Dont be intimidated. He's easy to listen to, his voice acting was distinct for each character so that they didnt become confused, and he doesnt overstep the narrator's role by overacting or coloring the words so much that the listener is still allowed to interpret the author's words for himself.
Overall, I give this my highest recommendation.

Super inspirational . A new fan of Joannie's. Makes me wanna get that marathon training back in full force. Great production quality with sound bytes and interviews - feels like I'm watching a Netflix documentary. Highly recommended.

Not his best, but one of Twain's better ones
Revisado: 09-01-22
It's not Huckleberry Finn, but a very enjoyable and light/fun read in the spirit of Tom Sawyer or Connecticut Yankee. The slavery issue and other social themes/commentary gives it more weight than Tom Sawyer and I enjoyed those aspects the most. Finally, the narrator's performance was excellent. His great control over accent and dialect work was strong and creative choices hit the right note every time. A must read for fans of Twain and a recommend for fans of American literature in general.

Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ( Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The young and imaginative Alice grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.

Fame can be addictive. From his early days videotaping crazy skateboard stunts to starring in the blockbuster Jackass franchise, there was little that Stephen “Steve-O” Glover wouldn’t do for attention. Whether it was stapling his nutsack to his leg, diving into a pool full of elephant crap, or routinely risking death invading the private lives of sharks, lions, tigers, and bears, almost nothing was out of bounds. And as the stunts got crazier, his life kept pace.
