Entertaining and Great Narration
Revisado: 08-06-18
Enjoyed this much more than the last two books in the series. Rhys Bowen is back to her original storytelling, with a satisfying mystery and good historical background. Georgie and Darcy always make me smile. If you've not read the series from the beginning, you may want to start with the first book. This is a nice, entertaining cozy mystery series.

Back where they belong
Revisado: 09-19-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The character interaction is back to where it should be. The last few "In Death" books had suspense, but the relationship aspect was lacking. By Book #39, we all have come to know and understand these characters. Eve and Roarke are strong, but it is their surrounding friends that make them a family.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It was a comfortable, entertaining story. Not as intense as some books in this series, but for a holiday edition, it is perfect.
Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Susan Ericksen is the perfect narrator for this series. See truly makes "In Death" a pleasure to listen to.
Any additional comments?
If you are a JD Robb fan, don't miss this one.

Historia
Famed sculptor Clare Kimball has commanded the attention of the New York art world, but troubling memories from childhood have drawn her home to Maryland, to the town where she grew up and where her father died so long ago in circumstances never really explained. Nothing much has changed in Emmitsboro—except Cameron Rafferty, the onetime high school bad boy turned town sheriff. The only hint of Cam’s wild nature is the light in his eyes when he looks at Clare. In Cam’s strong arms Clare is seduced into falling in love—and believing that her small-town world is safe.

More Suspense than Romance
Revisado: 05-13-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Divine Evil to be better than the print version?
This is an older audio book, with the narrator presenting it as "Books on Tape." However, don't let that dissuade you. The narrator, Kimberly Farr, does an excellent job.
What other book might you compare Divine Evil to and why?
This is not so much a romance, but a suspense story with a little romance thrown in. If you are a fan of Robert's JD Robb series, then the graphic violence and satanism in the storyline will not bother you. I am a big fan of the JD Robb series, so I enjoyed this book very much.
What about Kimberly Farr’s performance did you like?
Good job with all the characters, both male and female.
Any additional comments?
Some reviewers have stated that this book is too graphic. Again, if you are looking for a typical romance, this is not your book. If you like Robert's suspense books (the Witness, the JD Robb series), then you will enjoy this one, too.

Historia
His name, they tell him, is William Monk, and he is a London police detective. But the accident that felled him has left him with only half a life; his memory and his entire past have vanished. As he tries to hide the truth, Monk returns to work and is assigned to investigate the brutal murder of a Crimean War hero and man about town. Which makes Monk’s efforts doubly difficult, since he’s forgotten his professional skills along with everything else.

Older but Excellent Series
Revisado: 05-13-14
What made the experience of listening to The Face of a Stranger the most enjoyable?
This is the first "Monk" novel, and I listened because I so enjoy Davina Porter as a narrator. While I found the first part of the story to be a little slow, I am glad I stuck with it. Monk is such a complex character, and his memory lost made the story that much more intriguing.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Edge of my seat - no. However, it was a good pace, and very satisfying.
Any additional comments?
I cannot wait to listen to the next in the series.

Historia
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Better than the Television Series
Revisado: 05-13-14
Where does Call the Midwife rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is an excellent book, with a strong and capable narrator in Nicola Barber. I am a big fan of the BBC series and was not expecting the book to be as good. In fact, I enjoyed the book even more. Stories that were quickly touched on in the series are given greater detail. You get a much stronger sense of the neighborhood and times in the East End of London, and how difficult it was for the families living in that area during that period of time.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Call the Midwife?
I greatly enjoyed hearing the detail of Sister Monica Joan's life.
Any additional comments?
Nicola Barber does an excellent job of narration.

Back in Botswana
Revisado: 08-21-07
Alexander McCall Smith paints such a vivid picture of life in Botswana. It is a slow, peaceful life. Anyone expecting an exciting mystery thriller should not be reading this series. But if you want to "visit" a beautiful culture in Africa, and be entertained by the Number One Ladies Detective Agency, this is a wonderful series. Start from the beginning, so you understand Mma Romatswe and her friends and family. I always look forward to the next story, and The Good Husband of Zebra Drive does not let you down. The narration is done beautifully by Lisette Licat.

Delightful new additions to the growing Emerson family and new wonders waiting to be discovered beneath the shifting Egyptian sands mark a time of new beginnings in Luxor.

Better Than No Version
Revisado: 08-21-07
This is one of the few "Amelia Peabody" books that are only offered in an abridged format. I read the full book after listening to this version, and can say that the abridged version does cover the plot and storyline adequately. The larger missing parts have to do with the (tedious) grandchildren, which are no big loss. I gave this 5 stars because of the excellent narration - how can I give Barbara Rosenblat any less? She captures the spirit of Amelia and her family, and always entertains. So given a choice of "no version" or the "abridged" version, I can easily recommend the abridged.

Historia
After an adventurous season spent excavating at Dahshoor, and narrowly averting the clutches of the Master Criminal, Victorian Egyptologist Amelia Peabody Emerson and her spouse prepare for a quiet summer in England. The social and domestic routine, though interrupted by the precocious escapades of their only child, Ramses, hardly seems much of a challenge for the indomitable Emersons.

Change of Pace
Revisado: 08-07-06
This Amelia Peabody book takes place mainly in England, rather than the adventurous Egypt. I was not sure I would enjoy it in a differnt locale, but the story was fast paced, exciting, and entertaining. Once again, Barbara Rosenblat lends excellent narration to the story. I have thoroughly enjoyed the British accent she uses with these characters. Much more so than the versions by Susan O'Mallay. Of books 1-6, this is by far my favorite.

Historia
Middlemarch is perhaps the finest novel in the English language. Set in a provincial town at the time of the Great Reform Bill in 1832, Eliot's novel is about the quest for both personal and political liberation and fulfilment, and centers on two remarkable individuals: the ardently idealistic Dorothea Brooke and the philanthropically-motivated young doctor, Tertius Lydgate.

Wonderful Narration of a Classic Novel
Revisado: 01-03-05
Middlemarch was one of my favorite novels in college, and I wondered if the abridged audio version would do it justice. The reading is superb, and the female narrator captures the accents and inflections necessary to a George Eliot story. The piano music between chapters eases the transition from one set of characters to the next, and sets the tone. I enjoyed this audio book very much, and highly recommend it. It is a wonderful way to experience this fine classic novel.

Wonderful to Hear!
Revisado: 12-20-04
Mma Rawsotwe is a clever, independent woman, who loves her native Botswana. This story has interesting characters, a colorful setting, and a delightful narrator. It is such a pleasure to hear the story spoken with a native accent. One of my top three favorite audible books - ever!
