Listened to stories separately. Much better.

I started listening to this as it is written but it was difficult to keep the many characters and the stories straight. I decided to listen to the historical stories first. So the order I used was to skip every other chapter. So I listened to all of Candace and Lady Isabella first and then went to the modern day Finnela’s story. I thoroughly enjoyed it this way. The narrators are all top drawer. Wonderful actors. The story was excellent as well. I love Nicola Cornick’s writing. *****

A very difficult listen

After several tries, I finally got past the fifth chapter, and still... nothing. A few of the characters are interesting, but not enough to hold my interest. I would not recommend this book. I'm very surprised to hear it will be a movie. The movie has to be better. Use your credit for something else - like 'Where the Crawdads Sing, The Four Winds, or even The Phantom Tree.

Terrible! What is this book about?

I tried to follow. Maybe it’s a better read. I didn’t get past the 3rd chapter after several attempts. It was very frustrating because I was hoping for a good read. Don’t waste your time.

A.I. Narrators? Awful

I could not get through the first chapter. There is no way these are human narrators. They sound like robots. I wish I could have made it through one chapter ...

One of the Best I've Heard !

First, the narrator is excellent! Second, the writing is naturally excellent. And finally, the story is excellent. The characters are full and interesting. I was upset it ended and am now going to another one of the author's books. You'll love it.

If You Need a Mailing List, You need This Book

It does what it says it does. Carefully, well thought out, steps to getting your list built from scratch. I am using this book to start my email list and so far I am pleased. It's not magic. You still have to do the work, but at least you'll know how.

Slow start but worth the wait

A few times I thought about stopping. It seemed so slow and at least once, even pointless, but, since the reviews were so good, I continued. I am not sorry. The writer draws you in slowly, then tugs, then pulls then drags you behind. Not like a sack of potatoes but like a skier behind a boat, skipping and jetting at will. The prose is flawless. This IS a readers read.

If You Can Just Hang in there ...

I nearly passed on this book because I did not want to experience any more nazi (yes, no caps) stories. They are so sad (as was this one at times) but I’m glad I didn’t.
First, the narrator could not have been better!
Second, the story turned out to be very good. I must admit, I nearly stopped more than a dozen times during the first 30 minutes, maybe even after that.
The writing is superb (after the first few chapters). The writer managed to capture the people, they’re experiences and feelings so vividly that I know I was THERE. I know I was. I call them people because they were never characters, not for a second. A- (minus for the slow start)
