Both a captivating narrative and a book of environmental and historical significance, American Buffalo tells us as much about ourselves as Americans as it does about the creature who perhaps best of all embodies the American ethos.

American Buffalo - one man's hunt, clothed in history and evolution.
Revisado: 06-16-24
Picturesque first hand experience and vivid narration - interspersions of history, quantifications, and archeological data are colorful and dovetail nicely throughout the book. One is brought onsite in all aspects of the journey and the hunt for the buffalo, both past and present. Anecdotal stories color the landscape and evolution of the American Buffalo; archaeological viewpoints add knowledge and perspective. Well written, detailed, and narrated.

Historia
On the evening of December 16, 1773, a group of disguised Bostonians boarded three merchant ships and dumped more than 46 tons of tea into Boston Harbor. The Boston Tea Party, as it later came to be known, was an audacious and revolutionary act. In this thrilling book, Benjamin L. Carp tells the full story of the Tea Party - exploding myths, exploring the unique city life of Boston, and setting this extraordinary event in a global context. Carp illuminates how a determined group shook the foundations of a mighty empire, and what this has meant for Americans since.

Overview: Disobedience and Tea
Revisado: 04-19-23
Benjamin Carp has presented in depth historical overview of tea, the Boston Tea Party, and implications since, the American Revolution. The relevance of colonial liberty and rights juxtaposed to the inconsistencies of color, religion, and wealth; timely inconsistencies that surface throughout civilization.
Well written and narrated; a triumph of research much like "Salt: A World History" by Mark Kurlansky.

Historia
In 1765, as the Stamp Act riled eastern seaports, frontiersmen clashed with the British Empire over another issue: Indian relations. When British officials launched a diplomatic expedition into the American interior to open trade with the Indian warrior Pontiac, the Black Boys formed to stop it and led an uprising that threatened the future of Britain's empire. Clashing with traders, diplomats, Native warriors, and imperious British officials, the Black Boys evolved into an organized political movement that resisted the Crown years before the Declaration of Independence.

Revolution before the Revolution
Revisado: 03-25-23
Often left out of American History as a mere footnote, tagged the French and Indian War, this brutal conflict, with its myriad of players, cultures, and beliefs, comes to life in this well researched history of what was the Real American Revolution. Born from a stormy and yet somewhat stable collection of ethnicities, we witness individual angst aggressively explode in the mindset and temperament of the frontier as it evolves to challenge colonial absentee authority with notions of individual rights; the complex realignment of human ideals and shifting allegiances brewed in the fear and tension of survival. All is vividly shown through dialogue, first hand accounts, documents, and recollections of participants woven into an extraordinary period of history.
Important and well done.

Historia
In 1764, Britain imposed the first of several taxes with the Sugar Act. This was followed by the Stamp Act and the Townshend Revenue Act. In 1773, the Seven Years War with France had made Britain the greatest power on earth. But the war had doubled her national debt; interest payments alone consumed 5/8ths of Britain's annual budget. To ease this burden, Britain made a fateful blunder: she decided to impose and enforce taxes upon the American colonies.

The American Revolution, Part 2
Revisado: 03-08-23
A continuation of The American Revolution, Part 1. Again, George C Scott does the main narrative with other voices depicting individual characters. Part 2 follows the same format, unearthing opinions, writings, and observations regarding key moments surrounding this epic period in American history. The book offers personal views of the complexities of the war, the politics, and the participants. The author's in depth research, which is not typically found in historical overviews, brings to life the various perspectives of the time.

George C Scott has a great voice; the other voices representing other persons are not as commanding. The material covered is an in depth expose of opinions, writings, and observations regarding key moments during the Revolutionary War. This research offers personal views of the complexities of the war, the politics, and the participants, not typically found in historical overviews. Great insight for those interested in this period in history.

In this detailed and fascinating account of the legend of the "Wizard of the Saddle," we see a man whose strengths and flaws were both of towering proportions, a man possessed of physical valor perhaps unprecedented among his countrymen. And, ironically, Forrest - the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan - was a man whose social attitudes may well have changed farther in the direction of racial enlightenment over the span of his lifetime than those of most American historical figures.

Jack Hurst gets my applause in his in depth biography of Nathan Bedford Forrest. His broad and in depth research uncovers numerous, often opposing perspectives, and successfully portrays this controversial man and military standout of the Confederate South. From pre Civil War youth through the final years of Forrest's post war life, Hurst captures the climate, cultures, and issues of America and the era, Nathan Bedford Forrest, the Blackstone Audio Book, is narrated by Jeff Riggenback, known for his clear delivery and stellar speaking voice.

Historia
Thomas Paine published Common Sense in 1776, a time when America was a hotbed of revolution. The pamphlet, which called for America's political freedom, sold more than 150,000 copies in three months. Paine not only spurred his fellow Americans to action but soon came to symbolize the spirit of the Revolution itself. His persuasive pieces, written so elegantly, spoke to the hearts and minds of all those fighting for freedom from England.

The 13 chapters of The Art of War, each devoted to one aspect of warfare, were compiled by the high-ranking Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher Sun-Tzu. In spite of its battlefield specificity, The Art of War has found new life in the modern age, with leaders in fields as wide and far-reaching as world politics, human psychology, and corporate strategy finding valuable insight in its timeworn words.

Revisado: 02-11-23
Well done; a solid, to the point, reading. This timeless perspective of war, strategy, and human engagement is seamlessly applicable to many aspects of life. It is a concise guide, an easy listen, softened with music background, but not so much as to lose the matter of fact cadence of the Art of War,
