Strap in for the opening salvo of the ARISEN: Operators epic—the biggest and most explosive ARISEN adventure yet and the untold story of the pipe-hitting operators of the Unified Special Operations Command during the first two years of the Zulu Alpha. To have any chance of reaching safety in Fortress Britain, Master Sergeant Yaël Sion must first escape the collapsing gravity well of Israel as it's devoured from within by merciless jihadi fighters, striking in the chaos of rampaging hordes of infected civilians, all in a global pandemic spiraling out of control.

What happened?
Revisado: 08-25-24
Huge fan of the Arisen series. This one was hard to disappointing due to the bizarre amount of Israeli nationalist propaganda. And to be clear, I was excited that the book was set in Israel, but it was like being interrupted every five minutes for an AIPAC infomercial.
The one star was for the fact that parts of Chapter 27 are word-for-word copy from Max Brook’s World War Z. I am just astonished this was released.

Historia
Maria Bamford is a comedian’s comedian (an outsider among outsiders) and has forever fought to find a place to belong. From struggling with an eating disorder as a child of the 1980s, to navigating a career in the arts (and medical debt and psychiatric institutionalization), she has tried just about every method possible to not only be a part of the world, but to want to be a part of it. In Bamford’s “trademark blend of disarming intimacy and dark whimsy” (Publishers Weekly), Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult brings us on a quest to participate in something.

Great job building relatable characters in a short story. The voice acting was phenomenal. Could have been longer.

But Nancy hates her job, is sick of space, and longs to find adventure and a safe place to smoke cigarettes that won’t blow everyone up. Good, but not great
Revisado: 07-18-22
I’ve liked most of the full cast features so far, but this one fell a little short. It was essentially the character from Russia Doll, but in outer space, in the 1960’s. The jokes are amusingly but not terribly funny.

Historia
Before Bonnie and Clyde there were Tiger Girl and the Candy Kid. In the wake of world war, a pandemic, and an economic depression, Margaret and Richard Whittemore, two love-struck working-class kids from Baltimore, reached for the dream of a better life. The couple headed up a gang that in less than a year stole over one million dollars’ worth of diamonds and precious gems - over 10 million dollars today.

Brilliant book
Revisado: 04-17-21
This was a trill ride from start to finish. Stout’s gripping account the lives and times of Tiger Girl and the Candy Kid tells a story that was inexplicably lost to history. This work presents, in vivid detail, the characters, the era, and the atmosphere in a style that will be familiar to a fan of Erik Larson.
Like it’s main characters, this book is gritty and gaudy, smart and unflinching, deliberate and heart pounding, and absolutely fascinating. Worth a credit and my early favorite for book of the year.

Historia
On Winston Churchill’s first day as prime minister, Adolf Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next 12 months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons. It was up to Churchill to hold his country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally - and willing to fight to the end. In The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson shows how Churchill taught the British people "the art of being fearless."

Fuchs really demonstrates his range with this book. Homer and Sarah had not been my favorite characters of the series, but I downloaded the book anyway because the Fuchs/Bray combo has never let me down. This has the same elements as the others, just as good, doesn’t miss a beat.

One of those books
Revisado: 11-13-18
I’m have been a member for more years than I can remember and sometimes it feels like I have picked the back catalogue pretty well clean, but I don’t know how I missed this one.
First, great narration. Anyone with an account on audible for more than a year knows the difference that a top tier narrator makes, like R.C. Bray or Simon Vance. This guy is top notch.
Second, great plot, unique idea, did not see it coming. I’ll stop here to avoid giving it away.
Third, great characters. There are enough to give the story great depth, but few enough that you can keep them in your head. They are different enough that you are able to imagine the emotional dynamics of the story, but have enough in common that you don’t have to strain your imagination to understand why there are all in this same universe.
Credit well spent.

Blatant intolerance
Revisado: 09-27-18
I’m the last guy to call the pc police, but this book takes an disturbing twist into religious extremism when it starts to describe a hyper violent race of zealots with mullahs and khans that are described in very offensive terms. If you like your sci-fi with a healthy dose of religious bigotry, then this is your lucky day.
RC Bray is fantastic of course.
