This book really give you a great perspective on human grace and decency. I really enjoyed the storyline. The narrator did a wonderful German accent, however, it did bother me slightly. I had to slow down the rate of speech. Overall, this was an excellent book!

Engaging!
Revisado: 02-07-25
The Midwife of Berlin is an incredibly engaging historical fiction novel that I highly recommend. I love historical fiction, and this book provided fascinating insight into post-war Berlin, a period I didn’t know much about. The story was compelling from start to finish, with intriguing characters that kept me wanting to continue listening.
The novel follows Ester Pasternak, a Holocaust survivor and midwife, as she searches for her daughter, Pippa, who was taken from her during their imprisonment at Auschwitz. Set in post-war Berlin, the story captures the devastation, resilience, and hope of those rebuilding their lives. The tension of a divided city and the emotional depth of Ester’s journey make this a powerful read.
Anna Stuart does a fantastic job bringing the era to life with rich historical details and deep emotional storytelling. The mother-daughter bond at the heart of the novel is especially moving, and the challenges Ester faces make for an unforgettable journey.
If you enjoy historical fiction with strong characters and a gripping storyline, The Midwife of Berlin is a must-read. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a powerful, emotionally charged story set against a fascinating historical backdrop.

I Felt Lost Reading The Lost Colony
Revisado: 10-19-24
“The Lost Colony” by Irina Shapiro is a novel that blends historical fiction with reality TV elements. The story revolves around fifteen contestants who participate in a unique reality series where they must live for six months under seventeenth-century conditions, testing their ability to adapt and overcome daily challenges.
Despite the intriguing premise, which combines historical reenactment with modern entertainment, the book fails to deliver a satisfying experience. The narrative tends to drag, losing momentum and failing to maintain reader interest. The plot’s pacing is problematic, with the story seeming to meander without a clear direction.
While the concept of contestants struggling in a historical setting sounds promising, the execution falls short of expectations. The book draws comparisons to movies featuring contestants stranded on deserted islands fighting for survival, but it doesn’t capitalize on this potential for excitement or character development.
Unfortunately, the ending is particularly disappointing, failing to provide a satisfying conclusion to the story. Overall, while “The Lost Colony” presents an interesting concept, it struggles to maintain engagement throughout and ultimately fails to meet the expectations set by its premise.

If you would have told a young John Stamos flipping burgers at his dad’s fast-food joint that one day he’d be a household name and that, at the height of his success, he’d be living alone, divorced, with no kids, high on a cocktail of forgetting, he might’ve asked, “You want fries with that?”

Incredible story, I could not stop listening
Revisado: 11-09-23
I was deeply moved by the revelations in Matthew Perry's memoir, shedding light on the enduring struggles he faced since his teenage years. It is a poignant reminder that neither wealth nor fame can completely alleviate the challenges one may encounter in life. Perry's book is a heartfelt account, characterized by unwavering honesty and remarkable transparency. Even after finishing the book, its impact lingers, evoking a sense of melancholy as I reflect on the possibilities that might have been.
One aspect I greatly admire is his tenacity. Despite the significant financial investments he made in his journey to recovery, he never relinquished his pursuit of a better life. Although I may not have been a dedicated viewer of "Friends," I recognized and appreciated his unique blend of witty humor and profound acting skills. Matthew, I sincerely hope you have found solace and relief from pain, wherever you may be now. May you experience the unconditional love and peace that you deserve.
