Historia
The murder of Paul Wheeler has all the elements of a blockbuster: family rivalries, incalculable wealth, and a prominent man dying in the arms of his beautiful mistress. It's a case that could earn Derek Mitchell even greater star power. When the Wheeler family approaches him about defending Creighton for his uncle's murder -- even before he's charged -- he jumps at the chance.

The dog dies!
Revisado: 04-24-25
Ok. So that needs to be noted. Had I known that I wouldn’t have listened. So I’m traumatized now. But I’ll go on. So the book was fun, but frustrating. I thought the sex scenes were a little too descriptive and kind of took away from the overall story. My other complaint is Sandra Brown must like dumb women. Because all the women in the book were dumb and some macho man had to save them. I’m not some raving feminist, but this supposedly smart, educated woman, who knows this creepy jerk is out to get her does the stupidest things. Example: Her house alarm doesn’t go off when she goes into her home - knowing she set the alarm and not 24 hours have passed sense creepy guy threatened her - but she goes on in and grabs a knife from the kitchen. Really??? And she keeps a secret throughout the entire book that could have helped her and her lame excuse she’s didn’t tell it was to protect a bunch of dead peoples’ feelings. WTF? And the other women basically jump into the arms of the killer and ask him to kill them. Even the female detective won’t follow the obvious clues to the real killer. It’s just so frustrating. And the main character is macho man, and when he continues to say and do shitty things to the main character female - who’s supposed up be so smart and worldly, she still sleeps with him.
Come on Sandra you can do better. The only saving grace - at least the ending wasn’t some random off the wall unexplained ending. It made sense.

The narration is awful!!! Most of the voices are purely irritating and they all have New York accents in Washington state!? I had to return it after my ears started bleeding.

Not sure which was worse the book or the narrator!
Revisado: 11-21-24
Save yourself! Even free it’s not worth it. The narrator pronounces “says” exactly as it is spelled. And she “says” it about a thousand time in this book.
SPOILER ALERT………..
In order to understand the ending you’ll need to remove your brain and all reason to understand. Because apparently a head injury can make you forget that you are gay, and also what your best friend in the whole world looks like with a simple nose job and some hair extensions. I could go on, but why. Just don’t.

I think it could have been much better without the dead puppy. Also the narrator developed a lisp for about 3 chapters towards the end. Overall it kept me listening.

Historia
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Flat unlikable characters-metaphors oozing from every pore and the narration was so bad it was impossible to tell who was speaking. Save yourself. I didn’t care what happened at the end it was so drawn out.

Revisado: 05-16-24
Waaayyy tooo many characters- and it’s impossible to keep track of them all. Then there are loads of unnecessary details that just slow things down to a crawl. To be honest I gave up after chapter 20.
