I would give the audio 4 1/2 stars. For whatever reason, the voices for the characters were changed from past productions. I was especially disappointed in Asil, Charles, and Bran. That said, it’s a brilliant book that adds to the developing arc of a greater story.

OK But Could Be Better

This is my first read of this author's work. The story line was interesting enough to keep me listening to the end. I would have had more fun if I could have kept my attention on the story. I was jolted out of it a lot because of references to things not in existence at the time. The manners and behavior of the characters would have been more in keeping with 21st century California than Napoleon era England. References to shotguns instead of blunderbuses really bothered me. It was just things like this that prevented the story from being at least one star better for me. The narration was okay.

Narration Terrible, Go PAPER!

Love Roberts. She won't make much on this narration of her book. Paraphrasing Roberts' as JD Robb's Roarke on accents:
no one from my country speaks like that.
As a Southern person I am insulted. I suggest the narrator stop using the Carol Burnett show to acquire an acceptable Southern accent.
I give the recording a 3 out of 5 because because I can't give the overall story a 6 or the narrator a 0.

Romance Intensifies

I like this one for lots of reasons. It's classic Nora so it's good. But this one has a romance continuing and intensifying over time. Usually, romance only lasts for a short while then marriage. It's over. This story shows romance continues, grows, intensifies over time. It's marriage without the ceremony. Plus it's good suspense.

There is no hope of that happening. If I could have rated it with negative stars, I would have.

Diana was fine. The author should be shunned.

Magic Bites, and We Become Addicted

The instant hook to know what happens next within the first few minutes boded well as I started the listen. It did not disappoint. It picks up and grows larger through the final chapter and snips most loose threads nicely in the epilogue. Illona Andrews did some great ground laying for future books without being irritating about it. No cliffhangers, just a great listen.

The narrator does a good job. She proves that differing accents does help identify who is speaking when, as much as and with more fluidity than changing timber and tone, all of which she does just fine. Not excellent yet, but give the artist time to develop.

I'm leaving this review now to go buy the next book in the series.

An Irish "Sopranos" for YA and Adults Alike

Hilarious beginning to the life of Artemis Fowl, a 12 year old boy in Ireland. Lots more style than Harry Potter, the magic in his world is well structured. Nathaniel Parker's performance matches the excellence of the book. Well worth the money.

Great story. A new favorite of mine. But the narration is so abysmal the over-all rating is just one star. Stick to the paper book and save yourself the agony! ...And the money.
