I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Excellent Ending!
Revisado: 03-16-25
I read a review that said slow start but once it gets moving can’t put down. SO TRUE! I read this for my mystery book club so I was skeptical. Lots of books for our club are just okay. But this one rocked. The pace, the dialogue and especially the narrator kept my attention. I almost listened to it in one day. I liked the writing style enough to give the next book a try. Highly recommend!

Connecting!
Revisado: 03-06-25
The story of Jim from Tom Sawyer to Huckleberry Finn is excellent. I read a lot of reviews about whether or not to read Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn before I read James quite a few reviewers said James is a great standalone but I disagree. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn were pretty quick reads and I am grateful I did it before I read James. I felt that the stories all connected And I was able to see each side of the story. It made the story James more poignant more relevant and it connected his story to Tom and mostly Huck. I also watched the PBS documentary by Ken Burns on Mark Twain. Also very thoughtful. Also a great connection to these three stories. James was amazing and it was lovely to hear that side of the story. I think even Mark Twain would’ve enjoyed the writing and the voice.

It’s fair to say that Maddie’s life in London is far from rewarding. With a mother who spends most of her time in Ghana (yet still somehow manages to be overbearing), Maddie is the primary caretaker for her father, who suffers from advanced stage Parkinson’s. At work, her boss is a nightmare and Maddie is tired of always being the only Black person in every meeting.

I loved everything about the story. The subject, the characters, the pace, the direction and the voices. I cried and I chuckled. I couldn’t wait to get back to the story. This will stick with me for a while. Highly recommend!

This riveting debut set in 1534 England secured C. J. Sansom’s place “among the most distinguished of modern historical novelists” (P. D. James). When Henry VIII’s emissary is beheaded at an English monastery, hunchbacked lawyer Matthew Shardlake is dispatched to solve the crime. But as he uncovers a cesspool of sin, three more murders occur - and Matthew may be the next target.

Revisado: 11-02-24
I watched the TV series and LOVED it! So of course I wanted to see what comes next. I jumped on Audible and got my answer. This book was just as good and the tv series if not better. The narration was spot on. I could have listened to this all day. Highly recommend!!
Now I must go. I’m about to start the next book in the series. ;)

Revisado: 10-23-24
This is one of those books where the narrator and storyline are perfect. As though the lead character was speaking to me directly. When this happens you can’t put it down. The story itself was gripping and fascinating. I have long believed in the power of journaling and its impact on telling history. This story could have been lost and what a shame that would have been. I will read this again and again.

Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

I can’t say enough about this story and it’s narrator. After the opening scene I was immediately transported. It took me a week to listen to but it was so worth it. Even after all these years the story, the characters and the ending will NOT disappoint. The pace and the voices are perfect. The narration was EXCELLENT!!! I laughed I cried and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. Let’s consider the age of the story and it’s relevance today. I honestly didn’t want it to end. I promise you it will be in your top 10.

Interesting Story!
Revisado: 03-19-24
I will agree with the other reviewers about the narration. It wasn’t my favorite. But the story was so interesting that I got over it. Then the voice became Varina’s. The jumping around time wise was difficult in the beginning but then I got use to it. I promise the story is worth it. I kept pausing and googling people, places, battles and artists. It was an interesting view of the Civil War from the defeated south. Especially the rational of the South. Varina Davis definitely has a story to tell.

Historia
For a runaway slave in the 1840s South, life on the run can be just as dangerous as life under a sadistic master. That's what 15-year-old Naomi learns after she escapes the brutal confines of life on an Alabama plantation. Striking out on her own, she leaves behind her beloved Momma and sister, Hazel, and takes refuge in a Georgia brothel run by a freewheeling, gun-toting Jewish madam named Cynthia.

Powerful Story!
Revisado: 03-12-24
I chose this story based on the previous reviews. What stood out to me in those reviews were the comments about the narration. They were RIGHT!!! I was drawn in right away. This is a difficult story to hear but needs to be told. Many reviewers commented on the confusion of jumping back and forth through time. I didn’t find that difficult at all. If anything it added depth to the story. The writer created a very clever way to tell the story.
This book has been in my library for a year before I listened to it. I’m sooooo sorry it took so long.

Still, Mrs. Doctor can't think of any place she'd rather be than her own beloved Ingleside - that is, until the day she begins to worry that her adored Gilbert doesn't love her anymore. But how could that be? She may be a little older, but she's still the same irrepressible, irreplaceable redhead.

Great Story/Marginal narrator😏
Revisado: 06-16-23
I have listened to this series 3 times. I try to ignore the narrations. There are at least three different narrator’s in my Anne of Green Gables series. You will have to preview several different narrator before you decide. NOTHING and NO ONE compares to Rachel McAdams. These stories deserve more attention and consistent narration. That said, the stories still hold up. I LOVE to listen to them in the summer. They have excellent characters and laugh out loud antics. Still worth a listen.

On New Year's Day in 1870, 10-year-old Adolph Korn was kidnapped by an Apache raiding party. Traded to Comanches, he thrived in the rough nomadic existence, quickly becoming one of the tribe's fiercest warriors. Forcibly returned to his parents after three years, Korn never adjusted to life in white society. He spent his last years living in a cave, all but forgotten by his family. That is, until Scott Zesch stumbled upon his great-great-great-uncle's grave. Determined to understand how such a "good boy" could have become Indianized so completely, Zesch traveled across the West.

The history here is important. I’m so grateful this was researched. Some reviews had reservations about stories of all the captives. I really enjoyed that aspect. The narration was superb. A quick listen. Really enjoyed.
