Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Unexpected storytelling and wisdom
Revisado: 07-12-24
I really enjoyed the wild ride Matthew took us on. From an awful exchange student experience to Hollywood success this is a truly remarkable story. It will be interesting to see what he does from here. Highly recommend.

Historia
One gorgeous autumn day, Harrison discovers that his wife—the sweet, funny, loving mother of their three daughters, a woman “who’s spent just about every Sunday of her life in a church”—is having an affair with a family friend. This revelation propels the hysterical, heartbreaking events in How to Stay Married, casting our narrator onto “the factory floor of hell,” where his wife was now in love with a man who “wears cargo shorts, on purpose.” What will he do? Kick her out?

Brutal honestly is so refreshing
Revisado: 03-05-24
Harrison lays out the most difficult situation with humor, honesty, and heart and I can’t recommend it more. It is insane that two people could stay together after hurting each other so much but they pull it off. This sort of openness makes me want to go home and tell my wife a secret just to grow closer. If you’re married, thinking about getting married, or want proof marriage is for suckers then you have to check this book out.

Dig deep and you will find the most compelling argument for working together: Happiness. In business there are always unique individual achievers, but pull down the veil and you'll often find someone alongside them. Michael Eisner does just that in Working Together. Using his own collaboration with Frank Wells at Disney as a launching point for examining other famously successful partnerships, Eisner offers us an intimate and deeply personal look at some of the most rewarding business partnerships.

Great profiles of partnership
Revisado: 01-24-20
If you looking for a detailed how-to on creating and sustaining successful partnerships this isn’t the book but if you want to hear about how some of the best partnerships in a variety of fields made it work then this is a great book. I thoroughly enjoyed learning as I heard their stories. Trust, commitment, mutual respect, and great talent seem to be common threads through them all. I recommend it.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

If you loved football in the 80s give it a listen
Revisado: 02-10-19
Growing up a cowboys fan in the 80s I didn’t particularly like any of these coaches but what an enjoyable listen. Seeing coach Gibbs as the no profanity offensive mastermind wasn’t what I expected nor did I think Coach Walsh would be so emotional since his persona was so cerebral. Coach Parcells seems like a great mind and mentor as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Jalen Rose has never been quiet. Not as a kid growing up in Detroit in the '70s and '80s. Not as the brash, trash-talking leader of the legendary "Fab Five" at the University of Michigan. Not as the player under the stewardship of Hall of Famers Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, and others throughout his 13-year NBA career. And certainly not as a commentator and analyst on ABC/ESPN and Grantland.

Revisado: 07-25-18
I am a fan of Jalen Rose’s work in podcasts and have heard him talk around a lot of the things he discusses here but not as comprehensively. I learned a lot and was entertained the whole way.
I expected it to be good but it definitely exceeded my expectations.

Historia
Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google are the four most influential companies on the planet. Just about everyone thinks they know how they got there. Just about everyone is wrong. For all that's been written about the Four over the last two decades, no one has captured their power and staggering success as insightfully as Scott Galloway. Instead of buying the myths these companies broadcast, Galloway asks fundamental questions.

Good overview but not super deep
Revisado: 02-15-17
I came in not knowing really anything about Jack Ma or Alibaba so now I do have a better idea of the overall story but having just read Shoe Dog (on Phil Knight) and The Everything Store (on Amazon) I was a little disappointed. This book seems like the perspective of N outsider where the other two are more internal. This is a good book but I wouldn't classify as great.
