What’s in a label? Are we the product of our upbringing or do we have a natural propensity towards good or evil? The eternal question of nature vs nurture is at the centre of Dr Diane Buckley’s world. A talented freelance forensic psychologist who has never quite found the key to engaging with people on a casual level, she is drafted in to examine a grisly murder – a body found in a children’s playground.

Radio show mixed with web series
Revisado: 04-01-19
I feel like this was an old fashioned radio show mixed with the technology of a web series. I wasn’t a huge fan and found some of the sound effects distracting. The story overall was good but it was overly drawn out. I got confused with characters at time and then bored before it would come back around. It has potential but I feel like it got lost in being over produced.

This book is very suspenseful and it comes down to the last minute. I would compare to Gillian Flynn novels. Great read.

Historia
Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

I am already tidying, true magic
Revisado: 01-04-16
I started the clothes purge this past week. 15 bags already. I did break a rule a got rid of baby toys but they were in the way and I was going to Salvation Army and my husband insisted. So I did do that but it hasn't stopped the purging of clothes. I continued the next day with another ten bags of clothes. I have some baby clothes to do too. It is amazing what this does for someone. I pick up every item and say to myself does this bring me joy. Then I move on. I am so happy already. I can't wait to be done so I can fold! Truly magical. Life changing. Her voice is also great for reading. Soothing but direct and influential.

Historia
During his 29th year, spending just $19,420.68, less than it would have cost him to stay at home, Adam Shepard visited seventeen countries on four continents and lived some amazing adventures. "It's interesting to me," he says, "that in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe, it's normal for people to pack a bag, buy a plane ticket, and get 'Out There'."

He should've hired a reader, he comes off a little dumb
Revisado: 12-30-15
So I really wanted to like this book. The major problem was the author reading his own text. It was flat and he sounded a bit dumb. He reminded me of boys I dated and grew up with that thought they were awesome and funny but were awkward and not very intelligent. The book storyline is good and if I hadn't heard him read it I think I could've appreciated the humor more. The book isn't really about a trip around the world it is primarily about his volunteering in Central America and his meeting his girlfriend. The rest is rushed through. I did like when he gave little history blurbs of information. I wish he had told more about the trip and less about the girl. The writing flowed better and he read clearer during the historical and background references which I liked. I just really wish he had hired a professional reader. I won't read or listen to anymore of his books because now I know his voice and just can't get it out of my head.

Not What I expected but great and relatable.
Revisado: 05-01-15
First off, I had to go to Natures Classroom and play the Underground Railroad game too. So yea it's real. Anyway moving on, this book was not the comical crazy nakedness I expected from Lena. It was pure and conversational and elate able to myself in every way. I find her honesty fierce and brave and I want to be more like her although I feel now I am almost exactly like her. I want to have her confidence and pure honesty to just say this is my life and it's weird and awesome and raunchy in a real way that has happened to everyone. But it's mixed with the adventures only a NYC girl and wealthier group can afford. Same life just without the nanny or the Paris trips. We are really all the same sometimes it's just some details are left out.

Bit confusing to follow on audio
Revisado: 04-24-15
I felt it was a bit hard to follow on the audio version it may be easier with defined chapters you can read into. I also didn't like that the author could not pronounce Dorchester ( a boston neighborhood) and that her Boston accent was not Boston at all and more like the Kennedy accent and Maine accent mixed together. It was strange and annoying a bit. I'm from Boston and don't have the accent but know it well from my mother, family, friends, neighbors, etc.

Historia
Islands, Oceans, and Dreams is a true story of a man who, at the age of 33, began dreaming of voyaging with his wife to the South Pacific. He wasn't an adventurer or daring by nature, but he bought a boat and began learning the ways of the sea. Twenty years later, racked with the pain of divorce and still aching to live out his dream, he set off alone for Tahiti. After reaching French Polynesia, he continued cruising for seven years and wound up solo sailing around the world. Islands, Oceans, and Dreams takes the listener on that voyage.

Story is Great, But the Reading Was Flawed
Revisado: 01-16-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a great story and a great book. It was detailed enough that I was interested in sailing but not so detailed that I was bothered with things I didn't understand. It's a longer book but very much worth the read. I really enjoyed the storyline.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Islands, Oceans, and Dreams?
I loved his stories about people he met and fears he had but I didn't like how much time was spent on Australia and that almost none was spent on the transatlantic passage and Central America.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The book was clearly audiotaped poorly. There are repeats in multiple places when the reader obviously stopped for a day and started up the next and rereads at least one whole sentence. It is pretty annoying and takes away from the book. It seems a little amateurish that they couldn't edit that out. I think at one point the reader clears his throat or coughs too.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Around the World in a Decade
Any additional comments?
Get a better audio version, title, and cover and a ton of people would want to read this. It's actually an awesome read.
