Historia
1987. There’s only one person who has ever truly understood fourteen-year-old June Elbus, and that’s her uncle, the renowned painter Finn Weiss. Shy at school and distant from her older sister, June can only be herself in Finn’s company; he is her godfather, confidant, and best friend. So when he dies, far too young, of a mysterious illness her mother can barely speak about, June’s world is turned upside down. But Finn’s death brings a surprise acquaintance into June’s life - someone who will help her to heal....

INTERESTING GOOD READ/LISTEN
Revisado: 02-09-17
What made the experience of listening to Tell the Wolves I’m Home the most enjoyable?
The characters are very real. The dynamics between the characters is so realistically human, and painted with such depth of human frailty. There were some lines in the book that were so poignant that I read them aloud to other people. Yet, it is not what I would consider a "dark" drama. This is a GOOD book! Intellectually and emotionally satisfying.
What other book might you compare Tell the Wolves I’m Home to and why?
Hmm, hard to say. I hate to even say this because I am daring to touch the hem of such a literary legend; To Kill a Mockingbird. This is the first comparison that came to the surface.
What about Amy Rubinate’s performance did you like?
I don't recall anything I didn't like about her performance. It was very good. It was right in all the right places, and it was loud enough to be heard.
If you could take any character from Tell the Wolves I’m Home out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Well the obvious choice would be June, the narrator. However, I think I'd like to get Greta her older sister out to dinner.
Any additional comments?
A coming out story and a coming of age story for every character in the book.

A WANT A BE
Revisado: 02-09-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Depends on the friend. The book is a bit melodramatic. The bones are there, but the writing doesn't flesh out everywhere as deeply as it could have.
Would you be willing to try another book from Betsy Reavley? Why or why not?
No, I don't think so. I need more depth. As I stated above, the potential is there. Yet, there is just something missing.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
READ IN TOO SOFT A VOICE.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

A DESSERT OF A BOOK WHOSE CHARACTER LINGERS LONG.
Revisado: 02-09-17
What made the experience of listening to A Man Called Ove the most enjoyable?
The most enjoyable thing in this engaging story is the comical interruption of life on this "curmudgeon"'s plans.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Man Called Ove?
There are MANY memorable moments in this book; the flowers, the clown, the cat, the watch, the rescue, the battles on behalf of his wife. The most memorable? The bond with the child, including little Jimmy.
What about George Newbern’s performance did you like?
George Newbern nailed the matter of fact character of Ove. His performance was clear and ungarbled. Quick and precise. Some of my audio books, particularly those read by women are TOO LOW. It's as if they are whispering. This is really frustrating when I am driving, which is when I do audible books.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
NO! I never went to listen to a book in one sitting! I like to prolong a good story and look forward to it like a good dessert. This is a GOOD story.
Any additional comments?
This is with regard to the author. I feel the character Ove behaves older than a mere 59. The age of the character in the novel is too young. This, which I think is a flaw, carries over to the age of Rune, who assuming he is Ove's age seems quite young for his issues.
