Historia
A heart-swelling debut for fans of The Silver Linings Playbook and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. When We Were Vikings is an uplifting debut about an unlikely heroine whose journey will leave you wanting to embark on a quest of your own, because after all...we are all legends of our own making.

Best novel I have read in a really long time. Get it. Listen to it. Love it. You won’t regret it.

Historia
Nearly every American knows someone who has been affected by the opioid crisis. Addiction is a trans-partisan issue that impacts individuals from every walk of life. Millions of Americans are tired of watching their loved ones die while politicians ignore this issue. Where is the solution? Where is the hope? Where's the outrage? Ryan Hampton understands firsthand how easy it is to develop a dependency on opioids, and how destructive it can quickly become. Now, he is waging a permanent campaign to change our way of thinking about and addressing addiction in this country.

Sounds like a political speech
Revisado: 09-07-18
The author got very preachy very quickly. The subject is an important one, for sure, I just didn’t like his approach. First, his attitude that “ I’m a recovering addict so I know more...” was a bit off-putting. Second, his constant comparison to other diseases is a repetitive beating of a very dead, dead, still dead, horse. Finally, the last four or so chapters sound like he is running for office and recovery is his platform. I can’t believe I stuck to it until the end.

Historia
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

An hour too long...
Revisado: 08-22-17
If you can figure out who all of the characters are and how they are related to one another, you are a better listener than me. This story is very difficult to follow. I ended up getting the book on kindle so that it would make sense. The last hour is painful. We were listening on a road trip and just. Wanted. It. To. Be. Over.
