Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Too Identifiable
Revisado: 04-28-17
I heard part of a review on C-Span and planned to read the book...months later, I have. This book is very current. I was shocked by J.D.'s life, how many aspects were like mine, but mostly that so many people had read this non-fiction book. Sadly, that aspects of my life were so common as to be a best seller and stay on that list for so long. This book is inspirational for what is possible for someone who has at least one person who believes in them.

Just Like Being IN on THE Discussions
Revisado: 12-03-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! Listening to this book was like getting inside the meetings going on right now.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
I had to try really hard not to confuse the current physical cliff drama with what is going on at present.
Any additional comments?
This is a must have for the political junkie on your gift list.

Historia
Bill O'Reilly is the very embodiment of the idea of a Culture Warrior, and in this book he lives up to the title brilliantly, with all the brashness and forthrightness at his command. He sees that America is in the midst of a fierce culture war between those who embrace traditional values and those who want to change America into a "secular-progressive" country.

Historia
It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...BUT WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO LIVES LIKE THAT? DO YOU?

Heard to Hear-Abandoning your comfort zone
Revisado: 07-15-12
What did you like best about Radical? What did you like least?
It was presented well. Lots of individual stories. Not sure I liked his unbalanced approach. Heavy on guilt. He didn't seem to pratice what he preached. Maybe I was too hard on him, it just was too heavy.
Has Radical turned you off from other books in this genre?
Nope
Which character – as performed by David Platt – was your favorite?
NA
Do you think Radical needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, The Joy of the Lord would be a good subject
Any additional comments?
He read his own book. I do not wish to give my time to a book that has not been read by the author.

Revisado: 05-12-12
If you could sum up No Apology in three words, what would they be?
EntertainingInformativeInspiring
Who was your favorite character and why?
Romey the worker.
Have you listened to any of Mitt Romney’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
My first
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, when ever he talked about making things work. You have to work with what you have.
Any additional comments?
Our current President had published two books-I read them both-before election day. I felt to be informed, I needed to read this book too. (I also like that the book was published well before the primary season when canidates morph.) It appears the choices will be between Obama and Romney. Romney is a problem solver. Listen to this book and get past the sound bites to what he thinks on a large variety of subjects.

Serious-moments of humor
Revisado: 05-05-12
What did you love best about Born Standing Up?
I enjoyed hearing all about his early years and his interactions with others in Hollywood.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I expected it to be more inclusive. It just stops when he gets into movies.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Steve Martin?
I only get books read by the author. He tells you up front he hates his work and the person he was then. So, his reading it this was should not have been a disappointment.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
His disappointment with the relationship he had with his father was moving. Especially the beating he took. He had a sad childhood.

Historia
One day in 1957, in the third-grade classroom of St. Brigid's parochial school, an exasperated Sister Mary Lurana bent over a restless young William O'Reilly and said, "William, you are a bold, fresh piece of humanity." Little did she know that she was, early in his career as a troublemaker, defining the essence of Bill O'Reilly and providing him with the title of his brash and entertaining issues-based memoir.

Very Funny-Inspring too.
Revisado: 05-05-12
What made the experience of listening to A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity the most enjoyable?
I suppose if you grew up in the 60's you can relate to a number of his experiences. He was certianly not coddled, had to make it on his own. So in this way it was uplifting to see someone who works at life, thinks and keeps a cool head, can make it. Very much the American Dream, I think.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed alot listening to this book. I feel sorry for the sisters who taught him in school but he got it back when he became a school teacher.
Any additional comments?
A pleasure to listen to-I will likely listen to it again, like a video you keep watching over and over.

Textbook
Revisado: 05-05-12
What did you like best about Ameritopia? What did you like least?
This is a really good book if you are looking for history. It is not a book for pleasure, at all. If the book really is about the unmaking of America he needs to get to it quicker or more directly. And we surely do have a mess here, but it takes alot of effort to understand.
Would you ever listen to anything by Mark R. Levin again?
Not sure.
How could the performance have been better?
It is a very monotone read. I usually like to listen to a book read by the arthor, and this one was, but no passion in this book.
Was Ameritopia worth the listening time?
It's not a stright through read. I'm still not finished.
Any additional comments?
It would be a good college course. That is if there were any feeling in the reading.

Historia
In the words of Harvard economist Niall Ferguson, the United States is “an empire on the edge of chaos.” Why? Glenn Beck thinks the answer is pretty simple: Because we’ve turned our backs on the Constitution. Yes, our country is financially broke, but that’s just a side effect of our broken spirit, our broken faith in government, the broken promises by our leaders, and a broken political system that has centralized power at the expense of individual rights.

Did Glenn Beck and Brian Sack do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
yes, their voices are not similar
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
