I dove into Penelope Douglas's "Corrupt" with high expectations, fueled by the online hype surrounding the series and my admiration for the author's previous works. Did it live up to the anticipation? Well, sort of.

The narrative weaves a complex web with a blend of then-and-now flashbacks, keeping readers on their toes. Admittedly, this structure demands unwavering attention, as I found myself re-reading chapters to discern the timeline accurately. However, this challenge didn't diminish my overall enjoyment.

The heart of the story revolves around Erika Fane (Rika) and Michael Crist, her ex-boyfriend's older brother. Michael, a basketball star with an air of danger, becomes an obsession for Rika. The plot takes a dark turn when Rika, now in college, becomes the target of a vengeance plan set in motion by Michael and his friends—the Four Horsemen. The enemies-to-lovers trope is skillfully executed, with Michael's harsh demeanor towards Rika adding layers to their dynamic. Here lies the crux of their hatred: three years prior, the Four Horsemen believed that Rika played a role in putting them behind bars. This betrayal becomes the catalyst for a revenge plan with dire consequences. While I appreciate an anti-hero, I felt Michael's redemption arc could have been more pronounced. Nevertheless, the narrative's darkness and a compelling twist kept me engrossed. The supporting characters—Damon, Will, and Kai—add an element of danger, keeping the reader on edge.

"Corrupt" is a dark and twisted journey into obsession, revenge, and desire. As the final sentence echoes, "SHE CORRUPTED ME," leaving readers with a lingering sense of the story's provocative impact.

"Red Thorns" by Rina Kent is an absolute whirlwind of passion, intrigue, and dark desires that had me utterly captivated the entire time.

Sebastian Weaver, the charismatic star quarterback and college heartthrob, is a character that demands attention. His magnetic presence and enigmatic personality make him impossible to resist. There is a complexity to his character which includes his ability to seamlessly switch between tender love and a primal, feral intensity. He truly is EVERYTHING, and the way he navigates between his "split personalities" adds a layer of fascination that keeps readers hooked.

Then there's Naomi, our enigmatic heroine. Her anti-social tendencies and the mystery shrouding her family background make her a character you can't help but root for. Her journey of self-discovery and vulnerability resonates deeply, making her relatable and endearing.

But what truly sets this book on fire is the scorching chemistry between Sebastian and Naomi. Rina Kent crafts their relationship with finesse, infusing it with tension, longing, and a romance that is impossible to resist. It's a love story that transcends the ordinary, and their connection feels both destined and extraordinary.

The story itself is a whirlwind of emotions, desires, and unexpected twists. Rina Kent takes familiar tropes and breathes new life into them, making the narrative feel fresh and exhilarating. The Japanese themes, including their shared love of anime, add a unique and culturally diverse dimension to the story, which is a welcome change in the romance genre. As the plot unfolds, secrets are unveiled, and the story takes exhilarating twists and turns. The sinister turn of events adds a thrilling dimension to the narrative, and the unpredictability of it all had me absolutely hooked. Not to mention the intensity of that closing cliffhanger!

"Red Thorns" is a spellbinding and unforgettable read that showcases Rina Kent's mastery in crafting stories that are emotionally charged and intensely passionate. Sebastian and Naomi's journey is a testament to the power of desire and the depths of human connection. Once again, Rina Kent created a character that sunk it's claws into me and I am entirely hooked. If you're a fan of dark romance with complex characters and sizzling chemistry, this book is an absolute must-read. It's a story that will leave you breathless and yearning for more long after you've turned the last page.

"God of Pain" by Rina Kent is a deeply affecting and brilliantly crafted novel that pulled me into its world and refused to let go. As part of Kent's mesmerizing universe, this book stands out with its compelling characters and emotionally charged narrative.

From the beginning, it was easy to fall for Creighton, a character who embodies the perfect blend of mystery and allure. His complex personality and the layers of depth that Kent adds to his character make him both intriguing and relatable. The first half of the book does an excellent job of setting up the relationship between Creighton and Annika, filled with tension, longing, and a palpable sense of forbidden romance.

However, the second half of the book was a tumultuous journey for me. As a reader deeply invested in these characters, witnessing the hardships and heart-wrenching decisions that Annika faces was difficult. Her struggle and the choices she must make, which are pivotal to the plot, hit me harder than any other book that I have read to date. Kent’s ability to evoke such strong emotions speaks volumes about her skill as a storyteller.

The relationship between Annika, a mafia princess, and Creighton King is beautifully written, with each moment between them adding to the intensity of their story. Kent masterfully portrays the conflict between duty and desire, making their story not just about love, but also about the sacrifices that come with it.

Despite the heartache and turmoil that the characters endure, the conclusion of the book offers a sense of redemption and hope. It was satisfying to see how Kent tied together the threads of the story, providing a resolution that, while not without its pains, felt true to the characters and their journey.

In conclusion, "God of Pain" is a testament to Rina Kent's talent in creating deeply emotional and captivating stories. The world she has created is rich and alluring, and the characters of Creighton and Annika will stay with me for a long time. The novel is a rollercoaster of emotions, beautifully balancing the themes of love, sacrifice, and resilience. For anyone who loves a story that tugs at the heartstrings while keeping you on the edge of your seat, "God of Pain" is a must-read.

"God of Wrath" by Rina Kent is an exceptional piece of dark romance literature that has left a profound impact on me. Each time I delve into Kent's Legacy of Gods series, I find myself more enchanted than before, and this book was no exception. In fact, it may very well be my new favorite.

Jeremy, the character at the heart of this novel, completely captivated me. His feral nature, combined with a complexity that goes beyond the typical antihero, makes him a standout character in the series. His raw intensity and buried vulnerability are portrayed with such skill that his over-the-top obsession becomes not just understandable, but deeply compelling. Jeremy's character is a masterful blend and a character with profound depth and sincerity, making him an unforgettable figure in dark romance.

Cecily, the female protagonist, is equally remarkable. Her evolution throughout the story is beautifully crafted. Kent portrays her as a woman who has hidden her true self beneath layers of intellect, only to have those layers peeled back by Jeremy's unrelenting pursuit. Her character resonates on a personal level, reflecting the vulnerabilities and desires that many readers can relate to. The psychological and emotional depth that Kent brings to Cecily makes her one of the most intriguing and relatable heroines I've encountered.

The dynamic between Jeremy and Cecily is nothing short of magnetic. Their chemistry is a potent mix of emotional, physical, and psychological elements, creating a connection that feels predestined yet utterly unique. Their relationship, while outwardly appearing toxic, reveals an underlying tenderness and sincerity. Kent has a gift for exploring the darker aspects of romance while highlighting the genuine, heartfelt connection between her characters.

Kent's narrative prowess is on full display in "God of Wrath." The way she unfolds the psychological complexities and emotional connections between Jeremy and Cecily is a testament to her creative talent. Their story is less about discovering themselves and more about recovering and reconciling the parts of themselves that have been suppressed or misunderstood.

The book is not just a romance; it's a journey through the complexities of the human psyche, exploring themes of desire, self-acceptance, and the transformative power of love. The steamy scenes are as intense as they are meaningful, adding to the emotional depth of the narrative.

In conclusion, "God of Wrath" is a phenomenal addition to Rina Kent's Legacy of Gods series. It's a book that pushes the boundaries of dark romance, offering a story that is as intoxicating as it is profound. Jeremy and Cecily's story is a beautiful exploration of how two seemingly broken individuals can find a perfect match in each other, creating a love that is as edgy and dark as it is sweet and sincere. This book is a must-read for anyone who appreciates the complexity and depth of dark romance.

Brynn Weaver's 'Butcher & Blackbird' landed on my reading list riding a wave of internet buzz, promising a unique blend of dark themes and rom-com elements. The premise, with trigger warnings including "accidental cannibalism," piqued my interest immediately. In the end, while the book was undoubtedly entertaining with its dark and complex subject matter, it didn't quite match the hype that surrounded it.

The novel's protagonists, Sloane and Rowan, characterized by witty banter and a deep protective bond, was the highlight of the story, however the four-year span of mostly off-page communication between the characters led to a disconnect. I struggled to grasp the depth of their connection, making their eventual intense physical and emotional intimacy feel somewhat abrupt and unearned. The sudden shift from shy interactions to intense physical and emotional scenes towards the end left me with a sense of "character whiplash" as another reviewer put it, questioning the authenticity of their development.

Despite these criticisms, the novel does offer an entertaining read, especially for those intrigued by a darker twist on the romantic comedy genre. 'Butcher & Blackbird' is an ambitious attempt at merging dark themes with rom-com elements. While it delivers on the promise of an entertaining read, it falls short of creating a fully cohesive and emotionally engaging narrative. It's a unique addition to the genre but may not be everyone's cup of tea, and despite my personal criticisms, I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

"The Sacrifice" by Shantel Tessier, part of her captivating LORDS series, finally gives us Tyson's long-awaited story, and it certainly lives up to the hype. As a fan eagerly anticipating more insight into Tyson's character, I was not disappointed by the intense and twisted journey Tessier crafted in this book. The world of the LORDS is indeed wild, and this installment continues that tradition with its myriad of shocking twists and turns.

Tessier has a knack for keeping readers on their toes with the never-ending unexpected twists and turns, and "The Sacrifice" is another masterpiece full of surprises. The big reveal in this story was particularly astonishing, serving as one of the most unexpected twists in the entire series.

While I didn’t feel as deeply connected to the characters in this book as I have with others in Tessier's universe, the story was nonetheless enthralling. The dynamics between Tyson and Laikin, set against the backdrop of revenge and forced matrimony, created a compelling and at times unsettling narrative. Tessier explores themes of power, control, and the blurred lines between love and obsession with a boldness that is both jarring and fascinating.

Tyson's character, driven by vengeance, is portrayed with a complexity that makes him more than just a ruthless alpha. His interactions with Laikin reveal layers to his personality that are both intriguing and disturbing. Laikin, for her part, is a character caught in a web of manipulation and deceit, her strength and resilience tested at every turn.

"The Sacrifice" is a dark and twisted tale that is once again not for the faint-hearted and offers a deep dive into the dark and complex world she has created. It’s a story that captivates and disturbs in equal measure, showcasing Tessier's talent for crafting dark, unconventional romances. For fans of the series and those who relish a story where love emerges from the most unlikely and twisted circumstances, this book is a must-read.

"The Sinner" by Shantel Tessier plunged me into an abyss of darkness and intrigue that was both divinely unsettling and irresistibly captivating. This book pushed the boundaries of dark romance to new, uncharted territories, and I was completely consumed by it. The narrative's constant ambiguity around trust and loyalty created an intense atmosphere that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book.

Sin, the central character of this novel, is a study in contradictions: deeply protective and obsessively in love with Ellington, yet shrouded in a darkness that is both alluring and dangerous. His character is a complex blend of passion and torment, drawing me in with his intense protectiveness and unsettling obsession. Tessier's portrayal of Sin is a masterclass in crafting dark, enigmatic characters whose motivations are as compelling as they are frightening.

Ellington, or Elli, consistently balanced her strength amidst the trauma she has endured in her life. Her journey, marked by harrowing experiences and complex emotional turmoil, was heart-wrenchingly authentic. Tessier's depiction of Elli's internal struggles was not only poignant but also disturbingly relatable. Her character stands as a powerful representation of resilience in the face of darkness.

The book's erotic elements were woven into the narrative seamlessly, amplifying the tumultuous relationship between Sin and Elli. Each plot twist was a jolt to the system, driving the story forward with an intensity that was both thrilling and disconcerting. Tessier has a unique talent for blending suspense with dark romance, creating a reading experience that is as exhilarating as it is unnerving.

"The Sinner" is more than just a dark romance; it's a harrowing journey into the depths of obsession and the complexities of the human psyche. Shantel Tessier has proven herself a master of the genre, crafting stories that are not only dark and intense but also profoundly emotional and character-driven. This book is a standout read for anyone who revels in the darker side of romance, and it has handed Tessier a crown as a leading voice in the genre.

"Black Knight" by Rina Kent turned out to be a profoundly moving read, challenging my expectations and drawing me into a world of deep emotional turmoil and complex characters. Despite the mixed reviews and the anticipation of disliking Xander, I found myself empathizing with his pain and understanding the depth of his actions throughout the book.

Xander's behavior, often perceived as cruel, is revealed to be a defense mechanism, a way for him to cope with a heavy secret he has been carrying for seven years. His actions, while hurtful, are rooted in a desire to protect Kim and their families, adding a layer of complexity to his character. Understanding this aspect of Xander allowed me to see beyond the surface-level cruelty and appreciate the internal struggle he faces.

Kim, the female protagonist, resonated with me on a personal level. Her struggles and internal demons often mirrored my own, making her character relatable and authentic. There was a particular moment in the book that felt like it could have been lifted from my own thoughts, which added a profound personal connection to the story.

The controversial spicy scene in the book, criticized by some, was, in my view, more innocent than it appeared. The circumstances leading up to it, involving misinterpretation and a drunken haze, added complexity to the situation. When the truth dawned on Xander, his immediate reaction to stop the encounter showed his true intentions and character, despite the way other reviews led me to believe.

The childhood friendship between Kim and Xander was beautifully portrayed, encapsulating a pure and innocent bond that many long for. I would have loved to see how their relationship would have looked differently had the life changing event not taken place.

Rina Kent's storytelling in "Black Knight" is filled with intense emotion, beautifully crafted angst, and a compelling narrative that keeps the reader engaged. The journey of Kim and Xander, fraught with challenges and pain, ultimately culminates in a well-deserved happy ending, which I found deeply satisfying.

Kent has a unique ability to create characters that are deeply flawed yet immensely sympathetic. "Black Knight" is a testament to her skill as a storyteller, weaving a tale that is both heartbreaking and uplifting. Her exploration of themes such as friendship, love, betrayal, and redemption is masterful, making "Black Knight" a standout in her collection of works. With this book, Rina Kent has cemented her position as my favorite author, consistently delivering stories that are not only captivating but also emotionally resonant.

The 'Lies & Truths' duet presented a different experience compared to her other works that I've deeply enjoyed. While I was initially excited to delve into Reina and Asher's story, especially after being intrigued by their son Killian in the Legacy of Gods Series, this book didn’t quite resonate with me as strongly as Kent’s previous novels.

One aspect that I found challenging was distinguishing between the different versions of Reina and discerning the lies from the truths. This narrative approach, while intriguing, somewhat hindered my ability to deeply connect with the characters. The complexity of the plot, with its layers of deception and revelation, required a focus that somewhat detracted me from the emotional engagement I usually feel with Kent's characters.

However, despite these criticisms, there were elements of "All the Truths" that I thoroughly appreciated. The interconnectedness of this story with the broader world that Rina Kent has created added a rich layer to the reading experience. The appearances of characters from the Royal Elite Series, especially the cameo of advice from Aiden, were delightful touches that reminded me of why I enjoy Kent's literary universe.

Asher's character, driven by a deep-seated hatred formed from misunderstandings and lies, added a compelling tension to the story. His journey, intertwined with Reina's, provided an intricate dance of emotions and revelations that kept the narrative engaging. The duet's conclusion "All the Truths" was a rollercoaster of revelations. Kent's skill in weaving a complex story where past and present collide was evident, even if the emotional connection wasn’t as profound for me as in her other books. However, with all that said, the book's intricate plot and connections to beloved characters from her other series make it a worthwhile read for fans of Rina Kent’s work.

"Vicious Prince" by Rina Kent was an unexpected gem in a series that has continuously surprised me. Initially, I had reservations about Ronan Astor’s story, seeing him only as an obnoxious playboy, but Kent masterfully revealed layers to his character that completely transformed my perception of him.

Kent's ability to peel back the layers of Ronan’s character, showing readers a depth that was hidden beneath his playboy façade, was nothing short of brilliant. The evolution of Ronan from a seemingly superficial character to a complex individual with hidden depths was a testament to Kent's skill as a storyteller. The revelation of his intricate past and the intertwining of his story with Teal's created a narrative that was both surprising and deeply engaging.

Teal, as a character, was equally fascinating. Her strength, determination, and the way her story interlocked with Ronan’s added a compelling dynamic to the plot. The revelation about their pasts and how they were intertwined was a masterstroke that added an unexpected twist to their story.

One of my favorite things about my time with this book was when I found a post on social media where Rina Kent shared her experience of writing Ronan and Teal's story. Knowing that Kent felt so deeply connected to these characters and that she poured a part of herself into the narrative made the story resonate even more. It’s rare to get such insight into an author's emotional journey while writing a book, and this knowledge added a new layer of depth and appreciation for the story.

Kent's writing style is immersive and emotionally charged, making "Vicious Prince" a book that is not just read but experienced. The blend of intense emotions, complex characters, and a captivating plot makes this book stand out in the series. Kent’s ability to make readers feel through her characters is a unique and powerful aspect of her storytelling.

Ronan and Teal’s journey from adversaries to lovers was crafted with depth and sensitivity, making their story one of the most compelling in the series. Rina Kent has once again proven her prowess in creating characters that are not only compelling but also deeply relatable, making "Vicious Prince" a must-read for fans of the genre.
