Quite enjoyable!
Revisado: 04-03-19
The narrator is excellent.
If you enjoyed North and South, think of this as an extract from that story, enlarged. It’s really good!

Excellent book, terrific narration
Revisado: 09-19-16
Ten Hours Until Dawn is extremely well-researched and written with great narrative detail. The story is a tragic one, and its telling is both compelling and compassionate. The narration is excellent.

Historia
In an isolated hut not far from the sleepy country town of Merino, stockman George Kendall is found dead and it looks very much like murder. Six weeks later, when the murderer is still at large, another stockman turns up in the township and, as a first move, provokes the local sergeant to lock him up. This particular stockman is Detective-Inspector Napolean Bonaparte, and there's method in his seeming madness.

Historia
Broome is a small, sun-drenched town on the barren northwest coast of Australia. It's small enough that everyone knows everyone else's business. How, then, did someone murder two widows in similar fashion and not leave any clues? It's a case for Detective-Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte, who arrives on the scene incognito. He's barely begun his investigation when a third woman is killed. Bony realises that he is dealing with a madman, and that time is running out to stop a forth murder.

Love Arthur Upfield!!
Revisado: 11-26-13
Arthur Upfield's books as read by Peter Hosking are always delightful. They keep me listening to the very end, with never a dull moment. Upfield's descriptive talent is unbelievable - his Australia is so vivid. He's witty and charming, just like his main character, Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte. Upfield is a master of character development, at least with the primary characters in each story. Besides Bonaparte, there's always at least one character that is sketched in high relief, and the reader always gets a good feel for even the minor characters.
But Peter Hosking - he MAKES the audiobooks. What a talented narrator and what a pleasure it is to listen to him!
Widows of Broome is not my favorite Upfield book - there are others that are more captivating, descriptive, involved - but it's still quite good and worth every minute.
Would love to see more of Arthur Upfield's books read by Peter Hosking available on Audible!

Historia
The discovery of the stolen red monoplane on the dry, flat bottom of Emu Lake meant many things to many people. For Elizabeth Nettlefold, the chance to nurse its strangely ill passenger meant a new purpose in life. For Dr Knowles, brilliant physician and town drunk, it meant the revival of a romantic dream. For a person or persons unknown, it meant a murder plan gone badly awry. And for Detective-Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte, it meant one of the toughest cases of his career.

Another Great Bonaparte Mystery!
Revisado: 04-02-13
What made the experience of listening to Wings Above the Diamantina the most enjoyable?
Peter Hosking's narration is, as always, fantastic. He's by far my favorite audiobook narrator! And Upfield's descriptive writing is superb, and his plots and characterization are fun.
What other book might you compare Wings Above the Diamantina to and why?
Swordfish Reef is probably my favorite Napoleon Bonaparte mystery, but this one comes close. It was a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.
What about Peter Hosking’s performance did you like?
Peter Hosking's performance is stellar. He reads clearly, and his Australian accent lends flavor to these Australian mysteries. He's GREAT with characterization, too.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This was definitely a book I could have listened to in one sitting - unfortunately, life intervenes!
Any additional comments?
Fun book! Would LOVE to see all of Arthur Upfield's mysteries available on Audible, read by Peter Hosking.

Very good!
Revisado: 03-29-10
An enjoyable Ngaio Marsh, set in New Zealand in WWII. Roderick Alleyn is the central character - he left his wife at home in England in this one. The book sports interesting details of the wool industry in New Zealand and some really first rate descriptive writing. Very good narration by Nadia May.
