Historia
When Savannah history Professor Everly Winthrop is asked to guest-curate a new museum collection focusing on artifacts recovered from the steamship Pulaski, she's shocked. The ship sank after a boiler explosion in 1838, and the wreckage was just discovered, 180 years later. Everly can't resist the opportunity to try to solve some of the mysteries and myths surrounding the devastating night of its sinking. Everly's research leads her to the astounding history of a family of 11 who boarded the Pulaski together, and the extraordinary stories of two women from this family.

Perfect stew of negative emotions
Revisado: 04-22-24
What an unappealing immature protagonist. Unteachable, inconsolable, swamped with guilt, grief, suicidal ideation, combined with the faulty self- centered notion that it’s all her fault and fixing it is up to her. My recommendation is for therapy, exercise, and zero responsibility for the foreseeable future.
Other than that, Callahan is mistress of English, great story, good documentary data, interesting dive finds covered with enough syrup to rot your teeth. I’m pretty sure Audible is no longer posting those reviews that do not promote rapid purchase, so I am unafraid of trampling feelings. If they do post this, accept my most abject apologies.
My sister, who has more direct knowledge of this than I, says it is a book directed towards the romance market. Oh.

Historia
From the humble drone to the fittingly named worker to the queen herself - who is more a slave than a monarch - the hive world, Andrew Coté reveals, is full of strivers and slackers, givers and takers, and even some insect promiscuity (startlingly similar to the prickly human variety). Written with Coté’s trademark humor, acumen, and a healthy dose of charm, Honey and Venom illuminates the obscure culture of New York City “beeks” and the biology of the bees themselves for both casual readers and bee enthusiasts.

All about the beekeeper
Revisado: 04-14-24
If you are looking for a story about bees and how to manage them, this is not for you. Mr.Coté has a fund of wonderful stories about his businesses in NY and around the word. He has innovation, enthusiasm, and certainly a giant sized ability to self promote. He also has a greatness of heart that shines through. This is a rollicking set of stories that will entertain and amuse you. If you are a beekeeper, he does drop some informational crumbs from his crumpet. I would, however, recommend this fast paced, larger than life, smooth talking beekeeper’s tale for the simple joy of reading a story of an interesting life, well told

Self serving author blows own horn

Author detracted from apparently good information by sniping at members of his beekeeping club and creating mean spirited portraits of any beekeeper of whom he disapproved.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Great story but listening experience would have been enhanced by a more expressive narrator. I found this listen to be soporific I spite of the grizzly attack.

From tales of chivalrous knights to the barbarity of trial by ordeal, no era has been a greater source of awe, horror, and wonder than the Middle Ages. In handsomely crafted prose and with the grace and authority of his extraordinary gift for narrative history, William Manchester leads us from a civilization tottering on the brink of collapse to the grandeur of its rebirth, the Renaissance.

Historia
Where do we come from? How did our ancestors settle this planet? How did the great historic civilizations of the world develop? How does a past so shadowy that it has to be painstakingly reconstructed from fragmentary, largely unwritten records nonetheless make us who and what we are?
These 36 lectures bring you the answers that the latest scientific and archaeological research and theorizing suggest about human origins, how populations developed, and the ways in which civilizations spread throughout the globe.

Prehistory out of date
Revisado: 04-08-22
While Dr Fagan’s course has much to commend and a very great deal to teach, the early history of Hominidae out of date. This is hardly surprising given the explosion of new data in the past several decades.
Dr Fagan has a concise, lucid style. He is an excellent educator and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a broader scope on early civilizations.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Tedious ending
Revisado: 08-08-21
I enjoyed this book although bothered peripherally by the self help and philosophy served alongside an interesting story. Towards the end, when there was almost no story left, and the therapeutic pep talk seemed to overflow the plate, I lost my appetite. Interesting premise however and some deft editing could spare a reader from the last endless five minutes. Show, don’t tell.

Narrator an nfortunate choice
Revisado: 05-10-21
Narration is affected, overdone and so unhappily intrusive that I gave up on this charming story. I can usually power through most narrations until they become the vehicle for the story, not the shrill main event, but found Lucy Rayner impossible to listen to. She did well with her rendition of the protagonist but was unable to be convincing with anyone else.
