Historia
Pandora's Lab takes us from opium's heyday as the pain reliever of choice to recognition of opioids as a major cause of death in the United States; from the rise of trans fats as the golden ingredient for tastier, cheaper food to the heart disease epidemic that followed; and from the cries to ban DDT for the sake of the environment to an epidemic-level rise in world malaria.

Great format and approach that loses its way

It did start out much like a James Burch "Connections" show which I REALLY liked. These first few chapters followed this script and made my experience comfortable and I couldn't help but anticipate the next facts coming around the corner.
Unfortunately, the author decided to take the scientific facts, which were the stars of his show, and have them take a back seat to his political stance and I had to suffer opinion and a stray from the scientific path he had so well planned for the previous chapters. After that detour, although I was still just as drawn in by the story he presented, we never quite got back on that original "path" of describing a seemingly benign discovery and how it ultimately led to a horrific or tragic outcome. I think those items were still presented, just not as elegantly.
This is still a fantastic book and I thoroughly enjoyed the facts and story that surrounded the history. I learned a lot. Regardless of your political slant, I believe you'll find his addition of a political charge as a distraction and a bit indulgent.

Historia
A deeply divided nation. Vicious politics. A shamelessly partisan media. A president loathed by half the populace. Smuggling and gang warfare along the Mexican border. Armed citizens willing to stand their ground and take law into their own hands.... That was America in 1881. All those forces came to bear on the afternoon of October 26, when Doc Holliday and the Earp brothers faced off against the Clantons and the McLaurys in Tombstone, Arizona. It should have been a simple misdemeanor arrest.

Historia
This incredible story shows how John Douglas tracked and participated in the hunt for one of the most notorious serial killers in U.S. history. For 31 years a man who called himself BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) terrorized the city of Wichita, Kansas, sexually assaulting and strangling a series of women, taunting the police with frequent communications, and bragging about his crimes to local newspapers and TV stations.

Immersive story, WEAK performance
Revisado: 07-24-18
This was a hyper detailed book that really put you in the passenger's seat of the convoluted yet exciting search for the BTK killer. By the time things were concluding, you felt a real connection if not kindred feelings toward the well presented characters.
That said, my major complaint is with the narrator. Throughout the book it seemed as if he were reading the book for the first time right along with you; just unrehearsed with odd phrasing and pauses from start to finish. This along with his countless mispronounced words made for a constant distraction, and for some an irritation to overcome.
This is my second John Douglas audiobook and although the first had a different narrator (I checked before purchasing this book), it too had poor narration that detracted from full enjoyment.
Certainly give this one a try though, the story is well worth overcoming the narrator. I'll continue to give John Douglas books a go and hope a better narrator was found.

Historia
Light begins at Stonehenge, where crowds cheer a solstice sunrise. After sampling myths explaining First Light, the story moves on to early philosophers' queries, then through the centuries, from Buddhist temples to Biblical scripture, when light was the soul of the divine. Battling darkness and despair, Gothic architects crafted radiant cathedrals while Dante dreamed a 'heaven of pure light.' Later, following Leonardo's advice, Renaissance artists learned to capture light on canvas.

Slow starter but stick with it!
Revisado: 06-15-18
A little tough at times to “purely listen to” without looking at the diagrams referenced in the discussion but way worth the time. It starts off a little sounding like it will be a philosophy lecture but if you stick with it, you get into an engaging discussion of the science and history of our current knowledge on LIGHT!
If you aren’t interested in listening to physics, theories and the history of folks who chased the knowledge of not only how light behaves but what it actually is, then give this a hard pass.

Sub interesting story and trite 50s detective reading.
Revisado: 06-07-18
The show is much better than the details in this book however, I think it would be ok were it not for the reader's take on how to perform the reading. His voice and stylizing is right down the middle of a 50s murder mystery or true detective show. It is really distracting and makes this less than enjoyable.
