I had to quit listening after six hours

I just couldn’t continue despite the rave reviews. Considering the state of the country right now (Trump 2.0, Elon Musk, and impending fascism), it was just too much. Things are depressing enough right now.

I enjoy a book with an interesting plot(s) but the narrator’s ability to voice different characters distinctly makes all the difference.

Disappointed

I so looked forward to the latest Gamache episode. However, I am very disappointed. An authentic Quebeqois voice is great and living in Northern VT, I am familiar with it. The accent does not make up for the overall poor performance. The "narrator" is more of a reader, as though he was just reading a book aloud. The narrator must differentiate voices. Otherwise, it is very confusing when two or three characters are conversing. UGH! This ruined the audiobook for me. I was not crazy about the plot- too many flashbacks that seemed to be just filling in. Perhaps another narrator would have made it more enjoyable. What the heck happened to the last one, who was excellent? Please give this guy some more training, or go back to the REAL narrator who had Gamache just right.

I really learned a lot quite painlessly. Recommended for civil war buffs and everyone else.

Not even halfway through the audiobook but the narrator sets my teeth on edge and her narration hasn’t improved. It is tough to continue to listen.

I would give 10 stars for the narration

The author/narrator brought the story to life. This isn’t always true of an author narrating his/her own work.
The story all came together at the end. Having just listened to a very long book that left all loose ends I doubly appreciated this one.
A very fascinating look at India over time.

Ugh! The sound effects are extremely distracting

The story was okay but the sound effects really distracted and took away from it. Give me just ONE good narrator every time.

Wow! A complex story

The narrator does an amazing job with this very long book. The story involves many, many tweets and other online communication which can be confusing at times. As another reviewer said, you may want the physical book which might (or might not) be less confusing. But a good story nonetheless.

Poor Narrator, So-So Story

The narrator can make it or break it. This narrator did not improve the story. The only character I could reliably identify was Jen because of the accent. Others were poorly differentiated by the narrator making it hard to listen to. Perhaps this narrator could take a lesson from Michael Deehy or Gerard Doyle who both do top-notch narration.
I can’t fairly review the story because of the narration.
