Utterly Awesome!

Whiny teenager

I can’t get past the first third of the book. I keep expecting Eragon to stop being a whiny teenager and become a smarter, brave responsible dragon rider, but my patience has run out. The writing just gets thin, wanting it to be better developed and more consistent. Perhaps I’m wanting a mashup of Dragon riders of pern and the hobbit. Oh well, pretty darn good for a teenager’s first real attempt at writing a novel and getting it published!

It refuses to pull me into the story

I keep waiting for this story to go somewhere. It is confusing the way it jumps around, leaving me questioning things, missing the next sentence. I don’t understand this book thus far and now I am introduced to the story of another character without enough answers and development about the main character. This is like an epic poem of a dream. The writing is good but the story is not reaching me to pull me inside.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I would listen to parts over again to try to understand what was going on, but the book is so scattered. Jumping from one person to the next – and there are many many characters – all bouncing around timelines. This was not the entertainment I expected from an audiobook. I found the conversations thoughts and character developments tedious and boring. The narrator was fantastic however. I think a middle-class Protestant or Jewish mother who loves drama, realities shows and soap operas would probably enjoy this book. I gave it back.

This woman is extremely funny, but writing is not what she should be doing – at least not sharing it with the public. She should stick to standup comedy and the great monologues on her show and leave the writing to her journal.
