Historia
Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is powerful; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.

Some surprising twists and turns here.
Revisado: 07-02-22
Kasey is the main protagonist in this cabin by the lake thriller. She'd lost her husband fourteen months before and was working on healing, apart from her Broadway actress digs. She finds spying on her rich and successful neighbors across the lake to be her new hobby and as she becomes more acquainted with them and several other new neighbors, intrigue begins.
The narrator was adequate, but for me I felt that her voice wasn't a great match for the audiobook.

No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story...until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

I'd heard a lot about Riley sager and this sure didn't disappoint. Hard to put down, characters and situations were engaging and I loved envisioning the old building as the Dakota in nyc! The narration was well done too!

Historia
Los Angeles is a city of sunlight, celebrity, and possibility. The L.A. often experienced by Homicide Lt. Detective Milo Sturgis and psychologist Alex Delaware, is a city of the dead. Early one morning, the two of them find themselves in a neighborhood of pretty houses, pretty cars, and pretty people. The scene they encounter is anything but. A naked young man lies dead in the street, the apparent victim of a collision with a moving van hurtling through suburbia in the darkness. But any thoughts of accidental death vanish when a blood trail leads to a nearby home.

I love the kellerman series!
Revisado: 02-19-22
John Rubinstein does his usual magic with the book's characters. He is always a delight to listen to and really brings the, characters to life.
Somehow the book seemed a bit disjointed to me...almost like 2 separate sections...the 'Cordy' section and the last section with 'con' and his wife.
Really enjoyed it and recommend it highly.

Kate Marshall was a promising young police detective when she caught the notorious Nine Elms serial killer. But her greatest victory suddenly turned into a nightmare. Traumatized, betrayed, and publicly vilified for the shocking circumstances surrounding the cannibal murder case, Kate could only watch as her career ended in scandal. Fifteen years after those catastrophic events, Kate is still haunted by the unquiet ghosts of her troubled past. Now a lecturer at a small coastal English university, she finally has a chance to face them.

Strange but good story
Revisado: 01-12-22
The performance was beautifully done. The story itself involves a twisted cannibalistic killer and those parts...though brief...were disturbingly creepy. The tale moved along quickly and I found it hard to put down. I'm looking forward to reading more of Bryndza's work...just hoping there aren't more cannibal events!

Following a run of New Year's concerts at San Francisco's legendary Fillmore, Patti Smith finds herself tramping the coast of Santa Cruz, about to embark on a year of solitary wandering. Unfettered by logic or time, she draws us into her private wonderland with no design, yet heeding signs - including a talking sign that looms above her, prodding and sparring like the Cheshire Cat. In February, a surreal lunar year begins, bringing with it unexpected turns, mischief, and inescapable sorrow. In a stranger's words, "Anything is possible: after all, it's the Year of the Monkey."

I really enjoyed the next installment in Eskens' series...please don't make us wait so long for the next one!
it's nice to find a great series that takes place in 'flyover land' and very nice to be able to read an author who knew the real legal world of criminal defense (Eskens has a J.D.).There are twists and turns to keep a reader guessing and Max is an easy character to care about.

Death Match Disappointment
Revisado: 01-11-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This didn't feel worth the time invested. I love this author when he is writing with writing partner, Preston.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Initially, it felt like Dr. Lash could have been an intriguing character. I was intrigued by his psychiatric perspective and thought it might go somewhere interesting.
Which character – as performed by Barrett Whitener – was your favorite?
Liza, the artificial intelligence.
Did Death Match inspire you to do anything?
I'll be more cautious in selecting authors.
Any additional comments?
Though the book started out as if it might be interesting, it felt to me like the story got 'out of control' and the author didn't know what to do with it, which led to the story
getting more outrageous and unbelievable as the book went on. I kept with it, hoping
it would take a reasonable/interesting turn. The scenes of running for safety in the secured building's vents, being shot at seemed silly. Very implausible that someone with Lash's training and professional background would have hung in there doing his investigating and assessing as long as he did. Even sillier was an ending where the company offered him an extra $l00,000 for the trouble they'd put him through and his turning it down!

Revisado: 08-16-15
What did you love best about The Accidental Alchemist?
I liked the character Zoe Faust, her airstream trailer, the ramshackle home she just bought, and the Portland, Oregon setting. Sweet and magical.
What other book might you compare The Accidental Alchemist to and why?
This reminded me a bit of the Deborah Harkness trilogy.
Which scene was your favorite?
I enjoyed Zoe's interactions with Dorian and the scenes in which she was trying to help him by keeping him occupied with cooking, reading mysteries and searching for the antique book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This was an entertaining and enjoyable story. I was glad to hear that Zoe will be in a series of this author's books.
Any additional comments?

Engaging
Revisado: 08-16-15
What did you love best about This One Is Mine?
Violet and David's relationship
Who was your favorite character and why?
David the husband. He had intelligence and depth and some unique skills which, along with some synchronicity, allowed him to be in a position of privilege. During the novel, he went through some surprising twists and turns.
Which scene was your favorite?
There were many. I enjoyed the way Violet and David's daughter Dot interacted in some surprisingly funny ways. i enjoyed the scenes before Sally's wedding because so many participants had secret/other agendas during the event. I enjoyed the scenes where David attended the yoga retreat.
Who was the most memorable character of This One Is Mine and why?
Sally, David's sister, was memorable for her self-centered and clueless interactions early on, and Teddy because he was full of surprises.
Any additional comments?
I am surprised I liked this so much. It was engaging, kept my attention, and I liked
the locale (California, the socioeconomic differences (rich and privileged to desperately poor), and the self-absorption (but capable of change) of the characters. The ending was surprising to me, but I'm glad it was.
