Historia
Promoted to the elite Praetorian Guard in the thick of battle, a young legionary is thrust into a seedy world of imperial politics and corruption. Tasked with uncovering a plot against the newly crowned Emperor Commodus, his mission takes him from the cold Danubian border all the way to the heart of Rome, the villa of the Emperor’s scheming sister, and the great Colosseum. What seems a straightforward, if terrifying, assignment soon descends into Machiavellian treachery and peril as everything in which young Rufinus trusts and believes is called into question....

The constant volume changes can drive you away
Revisado: 12-29-24
Why producers do not ensure a consistent volume boggles the mind. The reader is constantly moving from a quiet voice to an almost shout. He seems to vary from sentence to sentence. Often he begins the sentence loudly then fades to almost a whisper. It made listening to excellent writing and an interesting story difficult. Constantly changing the volume control to either spare my ears or to hear the story distracts from this exciting story.

Roman Legion but in a different world
Revisado: 12-11-24
The flow of the story was engaging. The characters were typical and predictable but the entire cast made for a good balance. The true test is that I am moving on to Book 2.

Historia
When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

Events seem manufactured
Revisado: 12-10-24
I know it is fiction but far too many situations appear that are totally improbable. Like they are driving down by an abandoned highway while on their way to Alaska and a guy on a horse is bring chased by zombies. They rescue him. Turns out he is out and about to lure people into an ambush miles up the highway.
It just seemed the author created some random event to make things occur in the story

Historia
"I've heard Cretan archers are good bowmen but weak skirmishers," a Tribune offered. "It has something to do with the teeny, tiny shields they wear like jewelry on their left forearms." "They wear jewelry into combat," Tribune Scipio moaned. "What have I done?" Set in the desperate years of the Second Punic War, the series follows the exploits of Cretan archer Jace Kasia and Roman Legion Tribune Cornelius Scipio. One is a castaway searching for a home while the other seeks to step out of the shadow of a famous father.

Producers must take control of the fluctuations in audio volume.
Revisado: 11-23-24
Most of us use ear buds to listen. Suddenly going from a low volume narration to a character shouting is uncomfortable. In this story there is a lot of shouting. Constantly adjusting the volume is a pain.
In addition there seems to be a mashing or truncation of words. I am constantly playing back sections to actually understand what is being said. After two books, I give up.

A Fifteen Yearold’s Fantasy
Revisado: 10-23-24
This could very well be someone‘s cup of tea. But I am tired of adolescent sexual innuendo and being inside the head of a junior high schooler.
Science Fiction requires the suspension of belief. I am good with that. This author takes a tale that comes straight from a horny freshman’s day dream.
I am sure some will love it but I could not last past a few chapters.

Stop with the low to loud volume
Revisado: 10-15-24
Good story, Interesting characters.
But the narrator is killing my ears. When will producers learn to not jump the volume up and down. A shout should not blow out my ear plugs nor should a whisper require me to repeat. The volume needs to be steady or it just becomes an uncomfortable back and forth of the volume control.

Rest Rooms Always Kill
Revisado: 09-09-24
The survivors repeatedly at every gas station have to clear the men’s room and the women’s of zombies. They almost always seem to lose someone yet they continue to refuse to pee on the side of the road.
This is a constant problem. The brothers are supposed to to be these ultra prepared and sophisticated survivors . Why they put themselves and companions at risk over and over again to use an inside rest room beggars the imagination.
This distracts from the story and assaults the main premise of the novel that the brothers really are expert at survival.
I enjoyed the story but almost quit it as they continued the stupidity of clearing rest rooms.

Narrator should not shout, hurts the ears
Revisado: 07-16-24
When a character shouts the narrator cannot also shout. We listen to these books with headphones or ear plugs. A sudden increase in volume is painful. The author tells us the character shouted, that is enough. Aside from that, this is an elite team preparing for a mission to Mars and they did not screen for immature jerks that shout when the coffee is lukewarm.
This is Science Fiction so there is a suspension of reality but not of consistency. The final straw for me was when all the farm animals committed suicide. I was ok with that but the reaction of the biosphere leader was way off. With her prime food supply rotting in the field, she sent the team to bed so they could talk about it in the morning. The only correct response was to butcher the meat and preserve what they could. Get some sleep after that,
I save my ears and avoid the frustration of ridiculous, contrived situations.

Fourteen year old boy’s hareum dream
Revisado: 05-05-24
The writing is simplistic. The sentence structure is short and bland. The author seems obsessed with the female breast and having a willing and seductive harem of his own. Of course every problem is easily solved by his AI with limitless resources available her. Was hoping for a little more depth and character complexity beyond cup size.

Historia
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Dumb but lucky guy survived
Revisado: 12-10-23
Made it to Book 5. Liked the story and action but the lead character just keep going dumb stuff that he knows is dumb. The author could have created scenes without the character having to do idiotic stuff. The story just lost connection to a reality and became a series of dumb moves with a lucky resolutions. I keep saying why is he doing this when he knows not to?
