I’ve been a lifelong Burt Reynolds fan. And if you are a fan, you are very much enjoy this book. It’s hard to listen to it sometimes, because you can tell he’s struggling. Made late in his life, and recorded late in his life, I found this great book to be a great way to say goodbye to Burke. There was something about the way that Burt Reynolds consistently broke the fourth wall, that seem to bring us along with him for his journey. Within a week of his eye, and I’m not his head, he beckoned us to go on all of those car, chases, bar, fights, and wild adventures. I think that sometimes Burt Reynolds wasn’t taken seriously because of his looks. In this book, Burt examines that himself in a very frank and honest way. I very much enjoyed all his stories about old Hollywood and the Hollywood of the 70s and 80s. I’ll very much miss this actor and this book was a great way to say goodbye.

I fully understand that there are two sides to the story, and I also know that things were different during the time portrayed in this book. But the story takes a severe left turn (politically and literally). I simply refuse to buy into the idea that the men and women I know, love, and whom I've looked up to all my life were in fact just sexist racist pawns of the evil empire that was the US government during the war.

If you have a loved one that served in WWII or any conflict for that matter, take a hard pass. This book will only infuriate you. My family served. Here and at home. Including the women who kept the home together while their loved ones were gone. I get what the author and narrator are trying to say, but I can't help but feel that they piss on the people who chose to serve proudly. My uncles landed on D day. My grandmother had several blue stars in her window she displayed proudly.

Well written and narrated I suppose. But as a listen, it's an icecream headache from beginning to end if you are moderate to right centric. Just slam your hand in a car door. It will hurt less and take up less of your time. One review states that this story is "Shockingly Biased and Politicized", and I think they are being kind. I can't be that kind. Pass.

every so often, you come across special little nugget. story that touches you in the ways of the show unexpected Not only was the writing in the short story exceptional, but the oration was a truly masterful performance. the author had me laughing, crying, angry, and truly pleased. this is a quick summary that touched my soul. Thank you so much for this book

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Absolutely not. I liked the stories, but trying to get through the poor oration to listen to the point was almost impossible. Just as some singers should never try to act, some actors shouldn't try to orate books. They don't know what they are doing.

If you’ve listened to books by Stephen King before, how does this one compare?

I love King. And I do like the stories. But on his collections of short stories he has a tendency to collect a gaggle of interesting actors or other authors to pose as orators and they usually cant read a book any better then they would read the instructions for using a hemorrhoid suppository. And the music? Jesus jumped up palomino; why do you insist on using a sound track that sounds like cheesy seventies porn?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Narrators/orators like Tim Curry MAKE the characters. Readers like Gerry Garcia make you feel like you are back in English Lit in High School and the class doper is stumbling through his reading assignment. All you want is for that GD bell to ring so you can get the hell out of there.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I might. But if actors with the same lack of skill as those reading this book were to be used? I wouldn't walk across the street to piss on the movie house wall if it were on fire.

Any additional comments?

Yes. This is a great book to be a book and read on a warm fall afternoon in a lawn chair somewhere with a beer or two. But the listening experience (when that cheesy music comes on) is like listening to a dump truck full of kittens being pushed off a cliff. Save your ears.

Very good book. Extremely well read by the narrator. I loved the story, and the setting. I enjoyed the movie and read (listened to) the book afterwards. If you like detective books you will like this one.

What made the experience of listening to The Silence of the Lambs the most enjoyable?

I love Frank Muller's work. He not only reads the book, and acts the book, he becomes the characters. Often you can tell which character is speaking simply by Muller's inflection before any narration in the story gives it away. How he reads Starling is different than how he reads Crawford or Lecter. He gives each character life; no matter how small in the story. Even though I've read the book and seen the movie, I'm on the edge of my seat sometimes listening to him tell the story. Excellent experience.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Very much so. Even though I'm very familiar with the book, Muller does a great job of keeping you in suspense. Some sections I listened to while on a long drive over back roads in the dark. I won't hide it; he had me edgy!

Have you listened to any of Frank Muller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Each of Frank Muller's works stand alone. It's like he is a different Frank Muller each time he approaches a story. His oration, pace, tone and characterizations are always amazing. I believed he was a prison "bull goose screw" in "The Green Mile" just as much as I beleived he was a deck hand on a whaling ship in "Moby Dick". This book is no exception. His Lecter is every bit the equal to Anthony Hopkins performance.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't know if moved is the right word, considering it's about a serial killer. But I would say that I was very invested in the story throughout the read.

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth the listen; great addition to any library.
