Narrators voice grated on my nerves too much
Revisado: 05-05-21
she was exuberantly british to the point of parody and with disingenuous limp character affects ... and story seemed forced and as though the death bed confessor were making it up in order to look cool on her deathbed. Weird stuff.

Involuntary and bittersweet tears...
Revisado: 05-03-21
are still running down my cheeks even as the deep voiced "this has been an Audible bla bla ." It's been a minute since I saw fit to take time for writing one of these reviews. I usually want to ... but I'm busy and I'll come back to it when I can. Well I can't imagine a day with more fire time constraints than today and I won't do anything until I've said how wonderful this book truly is. I know I will miss the characters very much and have not one criticism of the writing; plot, character development, historical accuracy, narration or even a comment about what cheesiness I tolerated for a self redeeming story. This book was superb and I only wish I had more of Mab, Beth, Harry, Frances, Lucy, Philip, Osla, Boots, Dilly and Mike. What a gift to have read it. Thank you to the author... I literally am still in tears. This was wonderful ... now get back to work and write me another please! I'll not ask if you without doing the same..I am currently in a state of 6 unfinished contracted writing projects with my editor that are all far overdue....Mab has inspired me to make good on them...Cheers and thanks again-Ariel Germaine Cassone

okay story featuring a family that goes through a tumultuous few decades due to various members selfish actions. it's sort of boring though and the protagonists are of questionable character yet I hesitate to judge. I only cringed at some of the prevalent perceptions recorded. sort of a shitty feeling permeates the air around me and into my gut after having listened to it.

good for a cheap thrill
Revisado: 05-24-19
this romance novel cloaked as a thriller is quaint, savage , low maintenance and satisfying. I usually get irritated with books I can guess the outcome of in the first half....but with this one I didn't mind for some reason. it actually was fulfilling to see my predictions play out. There's a stereotypical "this type of book" archetype in every page but not so much as to become parodies of themselves. it's lazy-easy writing; probably didn't take longer than a day to complete and most likely conceived in necessity of contractual obligations. but.....pretty entertaining if you can accept it on it's surface level, bc the few moments it attempts getting deep are cringe worthy. also....not for listening to around anyone you'd like to retain respect for your intellect. but definitely a lull buster if you're married and need a little inspiration for the bedroom. I wouldn't recommend it but also wouldn't turn down a copy in a waiting room or airplane... served it's purpose well. cheers!

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

starts slow but great story
Revisado: 05-21-19
gaiman certainly knows his voice-theres no doubt about that. this story meanders and the climax is expertly spread about saturating the story rather than lumping itself up in the middle. the themes are that which one sees in all of his writing and some concepts of other wordly things from other stories of his seem to have leaked into this one. very whimsical and charming-both the story and his performance of it.

Historia
It is 1923. Mary Russell Holmes and her husband, the retired Sherlock Holmes, are enjoying the summer together on their Sussex estate when they are visited by an old friend, Miss Dorothy Ruskin, an archeologist just returned from Palestine. She leaves in their protection an ancient manuscript which seems to hint at the possibility that Mary Magdalene was an apostle—an artifact certain to stir up a storm of biblical proportions in the Christian establishment.

sort of boring and predictable-her least entertaining work. it's an easy listen though and apparently a necessity to read if one wants to follow the series which is replete with great reads
