"I hate research" - John Grisham
Revisado: 01-06-25
This book is one of the most boring books that I have ever listened to. However, the performance by Ballerini is excellent as usual. The fact that he did such an amazing job with such poor material is a testament to his craft. Mr. Grisham is lazy. He said in the author's note that he hates to do research and it shows. Many of his assumptions in the story are false and could have been researched easily. If that was not bad enough, the book has no spark, no intricacies and no thrills - just one tired, predictable plot. Clearly, Mr. Grisham is just resting upon his past laurels. Possibly, he should just rest or find something else to do.
It is unfortunate that I wasted a credit on this drivel. That will not happen again.

The Author of this Drivel Requires Therapy
Revisado: 05-31-24
That was awful. I knew who did it when they first showed up in the "story". I don't really even know what to say about this because it was so poor. I listened to the last 3 hours of the drivel on 3X narration speed while working... just to end it. It is just awful. The only positive thing that I can say about this offering is that this piece of crap did spur me to get a new kindle so that I can hopefully find some good books,,, to read! Gawd! Did I mention that this is awful? Alice Blanchard has trouble in her life. It was not nature versus nurture. Ms. Blanchard just needs a doctor and some proper meds. But, if she ever wants to make an attempt to understand psychopaths? Do some basic research. Sheesh. This is by far the worst audible offering that I have ever listened to (and I have suffered through some pretty poor crap). I am canceling audible. Yes, it is actually that horrible.

Absolute waste of a credit
Revisado: 09-26-23
I wish that I had read the one star reviews before I wasted a credit on this drivel. Stephen King needs a new editor. I understand that his long time editor had recently passed away. That event must have occurred before this nonsense of a book was published. The only way that this tripe was published is because it was written by Stephen King. Very few other authors could have gotten this mess past the publisher.
This book is awful. We know that King hates Donald Trump. This is probably because he has hung out with The Donald and that The Donald knows what kind of person King actually is in his personal life. This is probably the same reason that Hillary hates The Donald since they used to be best of friends. So, I get the references to The Donald. King is obsessed with him. But, the non-stop Covid references... Well, it is a book a fiction, so I guess that King made up the Covid stuff. The only other explanation is that Stephen King is an idiot.
Absolute waste of a credit. I am going back to the Plus catalog where most books have at least made it through an editor or two.

Rather Pointless
Revisado: 09-08-22
I actually get the point. But that is not why I read/listen to fiction. I read/listen to nonfiction to get the point. Fiction is for storytelling. This story was told very poorly and it did not have an ending. This author has ended up on my "do not read" list.

Can you give zero stars?
Revisado: 02-02-21
While this book is mostly fluff written by someone who does not know very much about canine policing, it was alright for listening in the car. That is until the description of the encounter with the Doberman Pinscher. That made it clear that the author also does not know much about purebred guard dogs at all. She probably doesn't know about any breed of dog.
I did not finish this tripe.

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

I read the original release way back when. I never did get around to reading the expanded version so now I have listened to it. I enjoyed the expansion of characters that were just part of other characters' backstories in the original. The narration in this offering is fantastic.

Audible Deleted My Review
Revisado: 11-30-20
After this pathetic tripe, I am considering deleting Audible. It is a very expensive service for only 1 credit a month. Knowing this, they have provided the "Plus" catalog. The utter crap that is this offereing came from Plus and was hyped as a psychological thriller. The only thing "psychological" about this was rather or not I lose my mind if I kept listening to it. Just awful.

After a devastating loss, Brynn Wilder escapes to Wharton, a tourist town on Lake Superior, to reset, and checks into a quaint boardinghouse. In her fellow lodgers, she finds a friendly company of strangers: the frail Alice, cared for by a married couple with a heartbreaking story of their own; LuAnn, the eccentric and lovable owner of the inn; and Dominic, an unsettlingly handsome man inked from head to toe in mesmerizing tattoos. But in this inviting refuge, a mystery begins to swirl. Alice knows things about Brynn, about all of them, that she shouldn’t.

Awful
Revisado: 11-17-20
This "book"is simply awful. It is no wonder that Audible offered it in the Plus Catalog. The narration is wretched. I can handle, annoying narration, but this is horrid.
I am not even sure what this book is supposed to be about. What is the "story"? I made it to chapter six and so far we have a 40-something aged woman and two homosexual men ogling over a mysterious, "hunk" with huge muscles and a lot of ink; a dead squatter of unknown identity; an eccentric innkeeper and a lot of odes to the Kennedy Klan. I gave it up. Awful.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Awful.
Revisado: 11-03-20
If the author is attempting to establish a series with this tripe, he may want to make an attemp to develop "Miz Chambers" with something other than the mysoginy that he presents her with. This author's clear disdain for women is palpable.
In the meantime, he seams to hate everyone else as well... The South, Hill people, small-town newspapers, psychologists, the Catholics, Christians, The Boston Globe, The NY Times, "fat bitches with a Texas drawel", the Police and, of course, the FBI.
The author does not even know anything about any of what he writes. He clearly hates a whole bunch of stuff and rather than seeking treatment, even through a fictional story, he just rails on and on against what clearly are some serious tramatic experiences in his life.
Oh wait, I have made it to chapter 10 and now we learn that the author also hates children.
Lol. No more of this author's psychological problems.
There is a difference between a good psychological thriller and just spewing by a guy who needs some serious introspection.
Awful.

Awful
Revisado: 09-19-20
This is just plain awful. I could not listen anymore. There are not a lot of books that make me cringe. Once the cringe-worthiness of this offering reached epic level, I just could not deal with it anymore.
In the meantime, a little note to the "author" - there is not an FBI agent in the country, nor any member of the OSP that would act or behave this way. Do some research.
Awful. I do not even know how to relay just how bad this is. I found myself actually feeling bad for the narrator for having to read this crap out loud.
