Historia
Once upon a time, Trick went up against the sea and lost. Badly. Or so he thought. What the sea decides to keep, it keeps forever. Trick is a dratsie shifter, a river otter. He is charming, loads of fun, and just a little bit slippery. He’s running from a past he can’t forget, and he’s landed unexpectedly in the chaotic comforting embrace of a small town cafe and the world’s queerest pack of werewolves.

I love this series so very much. This one is markedly less spicy than the rest, which was a tiny bit disappointing. But the story is just as sweet and well crafted as the rest. Devoured it in a day.

Historia
Autism—that’s being able to count matches really fast and knowing that 7 August 1984 was a Tuesday, right? Well, no. In this book, Bianca Toeps explains in great detail what life is like when you’re autistic. She does this by looking at what science says about autism (and why some theories can go straight in the trash), but also by telling her own story and interviewing other autistics.

Very poorly narrated
Revisado: 03-30-25
It’s disappointing that the narration on this is so bad, as I think the book would be much better with a different narrator. Lacks inflection and I occasionally wondered if it was AI reading it rather than a person. Also strangely long pauses in between sections that because of the lack of vocal inflection to place emphasis were very disconcerting.
The book itself is helpful though a bit scattered in terms of who it seems to be written to/for.

Historia
With a reporter’s eye and an insider’s perspective, Eric Garcia shows what it’s like to be autistic across America. Garcia began writing about autism because he was frustrated by the media’s coverage of it; the myths that the disorder is caused by vaccines, the narrow portrayals of autistic people as white men working in Silicon Valley. His own life as an autistic person didn’t look anything like that.

Cute but anxious MC is exhausting
Revisado: 02-04-25
A sweet, cozy story and generally enjoyable read. HOWEVER, the intense anxiety of the main character and incessant fretting got very tiresome. I had to take breaks so as not to get too wound up in her perpetual state of freaking out.

Now Phex is thrust headfirst into the galaxy’s most cutthroat entertainment industry, where music is visible, the price of fame can kill, and the only friends he has want to be worshiped.

Super cute and engaging
Revisado: 07-24-24
This is just such a charming and sweet book. I love Gail Carriger’s work, and this new universe and genre is a fun and surprisingly welcome pivot. Admittedly, the pop bands as gods allegory (? Metaphor?) does feel a bit heavy handed at times, but just deciding to set that aside makes for a really cozy, sweet, found-family story that was just what my tender heart and tired brain needed.
