Spoiled by the poor narration
Revisado: 03-05-23
In addition to the low quaff the narrator, there are background noises in the recording. This is definitely amateur hour!

Richard Osman must keep writing!
Revisado: 10-08-22
The start of third book in the series was slightly marred for me by the change of narrator. After an hour or so I no longer noticed. The same cast of characters return and are joined by some new heroes and villains.
The Thursday Murder Club books are just wonderful.

Lighthearted, warm & intriguing
Revisado: 08-24-21
Richard Osman’s first novel is wonderful. A interesting assortment of characters and backstories make up the heroes and villains of this book. Plenty of plot twists and turns, but what makes it so special is the warmth & humor of the writing. This is certain to be a successful TV series soon.

Historia
Here is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. Klara and the Sun is a thrilling book that offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator, and one that explores the fundamental question: What does it mean to love?

Very different & very good
Revisado: 05-27-21
This is the best book I have listened to in years. It’s unusual, both style & content. It’s hard to describe: it’s not really science fiction, although it’s set in a slightly dystopian future, nor a love story, although that’s part of it. Give it a try.

Not vital to the series
Revisado: 07-22-20
This book is strong on exposition, weak on plot. Lots of economics, little action. I read it out of sequence (due to the negative reviews), and would encourage the casual Ring of Fire reader to give it a miss.

Downing's clunker
Revisado: 05-20-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The story line stretches credulity, and the characters are tired.
Would you ever listen to anything by David Downing again?
I enjoyed the 'Station' series, and have listened to the two previous books in this series. This is the weakest.

Not the best in the series
Revisado: 04-16-17
What did you like best about Prussian Blue? What did you like least?
It's another in the Bernie Gunther series by Philip Kerr. The characters are well established. It mixes two stories, one set in 1939 and the other in 1956. Prussian Blue isn't as strong or compelling as some of the earlier books in the series.
Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
John Lee does a good job with the material.

A classic page turner
Revisado: 01-22-17
Clavell's novels are long and engrossing. This recording has a few small technical issues - the ends of many sentences fade out. Overall, excellent narration with good differentiation between the characters voices.

Historia
Alan Furst's latest novel takes place in the secret hotels, nightclubs, and cafes of occupied Paris and the villages of France during the spring of 1941, when Britain was losing the war. Many of the characters are resistance fighters who run an escape line for British airmen down to Spain; they include men and women, old and young, all strong - an aristocrat, a Jewish teacher - and the hero is a hero, has a gun, and uses it.
