Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

I always wondered about Jim’s story. I knew it was different than Hucks version. I like knowing.

Historia
In popular memory, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the quintessential political “natural.” Born in 1882 to a wealthy, influential family and blessed with an abundance of charm and charisma, he seemed destined for high office. Yet for all his gifts, the young Roosevelt nonetheless lacked depth, empathy, and an ability to think strategically. Those qualities, so essential to his success as president, were skills he acquired during his seven-year journey through illness and recovery.

Such a story, told with care and completeness. It left me wanting more and longing for a country willing and able to face the challenges and work together for the greater good!

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Wow! Riveting
Revisado: 11-14-22
I couldn’t wait to get back to this story! It will stick with me.
I am left feeling terrible for this wounded child knowing that she really suffered for someone else’s vision for her life and that person’s profound mental illness. I hope that She can stay in the place of peace and know that what happened is not who She is.
The Mom part of me broke for her. She was such fun to watch on TV with my own daughter. It is terrible to know now what She was really going through.
This is a reminder to consider that everything we do as parents even in “ normal “ circumstances can really hurt. But wow When you inflict your issues on a child it is far too much for them to bear. And they should not bear it!
Anyway riveting story.
