Very Watered Down

What disappointed you about A Course in Miracles Made Easy?

I was looking forward to listening after hearing the audio bit on here, bc Alan Cohen is a good narrator and I wanted to ease into ACIM. BUT then I saw, it was published by HayHouse, ... became a little reluctant but went ahead with it. Listened to an hour, and it's very HayHouse-y - I just find HayHouse audiobooks to be about 25% good solid material (at best!, usually it's a lot less), with the rest being filler. There's not enough 'meat' so I start zoning out. This book is no exception, unfortunately. There are a VERY few exceptions (like Anita Moorjani's Dying to Be Me). But this sadly wasn't one of those...

Excellent for Manifesting

What did you love best about Creating Your Heart's Desire?

I have listened to o so many audiobooks/lectures on manifesting and this by far is the BEST. She makes the process fun, as it should be. Very detailed, never boring, and wonderfully thorough - the lectures are peppered with engaging stories and insightful musings. If you're on the hunt for other material on manifesting also try Neville Goddard.

Middle 2 hrs is life-changing

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Many cons but a few important pros (rendering it 'worth it'). Her voice - the odd Candanian accent, the slow, pretentious, '90s-sexy' voice is a huge turn-off. It just doesn't sound authentic - as if she is a second-rate actor playing a part. To get past this - I played it at 1.5x - making the voice higher, faster, and less sexy. Then the music.... it is annoying and pops in often - quite humorous, it's so dorky and stupid. The first three chapters are a waste, filler material. zzzzz... The 4 & 5th chapter is where it's at. You are being asked a series of questions to find out your heart's desire. This is what makes it all worthwhile. About 2 hrs worth of material, if you play it at 1.5x, it's less. But whatever - it's a workbook in audio format. If it was just sold as these two chapters then it would be like $6.95 for audible members so hence why they didn't - probably. But even as a credit, if you're at the place in your life where you want to manifest it real, you could really benefit. From it, I had a REAL breakthrough. Just, WOW. The final chapter centers upon how to get to where you want to go now that you know your core desire feelings. It's basically the same questions being asked again and again and again in various aspects of your life... so 5 mins of it is useful.

What made the experience of listening to The Rainbow Comes and Goes the most enjoyable?

This is a gem I will return to again and again.

Gloria keeps coming back to the art of keeping hope, seeing the beauty of life, and there's always an opportunity, or will be. I initially thought this to be utter bull$h*t but after hearing her return back to it again and again, I'm convinced it's pure wisdom. It IS so true! When Gloria speaks of it, it is as if she KNOWS it... and she does. This is why this book was transformative for me.

A Whole Lot of Nothing

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I recently heard Michelle Visage on a radio interview and was like 'This woman is awesome!'. And she is. But this book wasn't. I think in radio format, drag race, and interviews Michelle's true beauty and talent shines best. This book was filled with hackneyed, feel-good phrases, blah blahs, etc. - rendering it a bit dull. Her narration was wonderful and VERY Michelle.

Much Better Than His First Book

What did you love best about The Andy Cohen Diaries?

This book was SO MUCH better than his first book, which was entertaining. It's chock-full of celeb gossip, musings, and the REAL Andy - be that bitchy, neurotic, selfish, joyful, charismatic, enduring, loving... It actually took a lot of courage to make such an authentic book as this - one would think! Go Andy! Good stuff.

What about Andy Cohen’s performance did you like?

His narration was stellar!

I get the few negative reviews scattered below - it's not a traditional book. It's a fast-paced, very NYC, 'diary-style' book and one would need to know something about Andy, Bravo, and Bravo celebs like the housewives. This book is really for his fans.

Comes off as manipulative

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This audiobook comes off as 'How to Manipulate a Guy into Having a Relationship with You.' There are a few good points but again the overall TONE is manipulation. I was open about Patti but after listening I question her validity on how to have an honest, open, and loving relationship with a significant other. It's like she doesn't get it. There's a MUCH better book out there it's this one - It's Just a F***ing Date, by Greg Behrendt and Amiira Ruotola. It's also on audible, and unlike Patti, it's apparent these two have learned lessons from the trenches and are in a committed and successful marriage. They are in love. Is that what you want? - Consider that other book then. In all fairness, Patti does actually perform the audiobook version remarkably well, which is a bit of a rarity for authors.

Just Horrid!

The humor is 'bitchy'... meh, is that really humor? And the overall tone was judgemental in a adolescent sort of way. It just goes on and on and on about the most obvious 'red flags' that anyone would figure out by late teens/early 20s... unless one is delusional. Therein lies the key.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Honestly, she sounds as if she's just running that mouth of hers, the kind of chatter that beckons one to 'zone out'. Wanted a book on relationships that was a 'light read' yet informative and entertaining. This sadly, wasn't it. It seemed like the best out of Bethenny's array of audiobooks and it probably is... which is dismal at best.
