This is the Modern “Prophecy” Book Christians Need to Read
Revisado: 08-01-24
If there was one book I wanted to recommend to the general church audience on Biblical prophecy, this would be the one. As usual, John Walton writes powerfully for both scholars and laypeople alike, and he does a terrific job of setting the record straight on what prophecy is and isn’t. He also helps his readers get a better grip on how to read books that fall into the apocalyptic genre, which is very needed for modern Christians. I think this book is important for all Christians to read.

Revisado: 11-02-23
All men need to listen to this book. Required reading. Even if you’re not violent against women or demeaning toward them, you need to learn how to address such behavior when you see it, and learn how growing up in our culture has affected your own mind in micro and macro ways. Hearing all of these stories and facts will give you the motivation you need to approach this issue.

Historia
In Non-Toxic Masculinity, Zachary Wagner tells men, "If you are in Christ, this is your problem—and you should be part of the solution." Reflecting on his own coming of age in the purity culture movement and ongoing recovery from sexual shame, Wagner confronts harmful teaching from the American church that has distorted desire, sex, relationships, and responsibility. For those—both men and women—who feel disillusioned and adrift, this book offers a renewed vision for Christian male sexuality founded in empathy and selflessness.

Required Reading for Men
Revisado: 09-01-23
I have read a lot of Christian sex books and this one goes toward the top of my “best of” list. What’s especially remarkable about it is that it’s written by a man, but does not sound like all the other Christian sex and masculinity books written by men. Wagner does a terrific job of inviting us out of the worst of past teachings and he does it with both conviction and humility, making his words actually able to be heard.
Whether you are single, married or otherwise, this is a book that all men should read. Heck, I think it might even be beneficial for many women as it offers a better perspective on men than the macho and super-sexual teaching we’ve all been exposed to. It takes the best parts of the best books I’ve read on sex and complies them into something that I really think is helpful and healing for Christians to hear. I cannot recommend it enough.

Asian American Christians need to hear and own our diverse stories beyond the cultural expectations of the model minority or perpetual foreigner. A team from East Asian, Southeast Asian, and South Asian backgrounds explores what it means to learn our names and be seen by God. They encourage us to know our history, telling stories of the Asian diaspora in America who have been shaped and misshaped by migration, culture, and faith. As we live in the multiple tensions of being Asian American Christians, we can discover who we are and what God may have in store for us and our communities.

Getting a Closer Look

This book gives its readers a great look into what it’s like to encounter racism on micro and macro levels and helps us become aware of when we participate in it, even in the church.

Historia
From the Azusa Street Revival, which began in 1906, a movement has grown to bring more people to Jesus than any other movement in history. While secularism continues to be on the rise in today's society, many areas of the world still experience church growth, thanks to Pentecostal-Charismatic Christians. But the Pentecostal-Charismatic church is also plagued with sexual immorality, financial corruption, doctrinal error, personal flakiness, spiritual gullibility, prophetic abuse, and more. In many ways the state of the church today is not too different from how it was long ago.

A Book We Charismatics Desperately Need
Revisado: 04-09-18
I began learning about and experiencing the ways of the Holy Spirit in college and it completely changed my life. But after spending some time in the movement, I found myself confused about many different things. I heard many strange and unbiblical theological statements and found that people far too often let experience write their understanding of God. Over the years I’ve actually felt some of this get even worse.
I never stopped believing in the Holy Spirit’s power and I’ve continued to try to practice and teach it as a pastor, but I decided to do so by immersing myself in the Scriptures and testing the people I was learning from. After years of learning, I even started writing a book on the subject.
All of that being said, this is hands down a book I give a 5 star review to. While loving the charismatic side of the church just as much as I do, Brown calls us all to account with a deep study of the Scriptures. I have felt nervous as of late with many of the charismatic books I’ve seen, but this one has encouraged me like few on the topic have over the years.
I’d consider it a must read for any charismatic, as well as for anyone who has been turned off by charismatics. Brown’s words will help God convict and clean us up if we’re willing to listen.

Historia
In this definitive biography, renowned Bible scholar, Anglican bishop, and best-selling author N. T. Wright offers a radical look at the apostle Paul, illuminating the humanity and remarkable achievements of this intellectual who invented Christian theology - transforming a faith and changing the world. For centuries, Paul, the apostle who "saw the light on the Road to Damascus" and made a miraculous conversion from zealous Pharisee persecutor to devoted follower of Christ, has been one of the church's most widely cited saints.

An important read for church leaders
Revisado: 03-22-18
I love N.T. Wright, but I was confused when I first saw the title of this book. Was Wright trying his hand at fiction and trying to tell back the story of Paul from a first person view? If not, how much could he really say in a biography of Paul based off of the information we have today?
It ends up that there is a lot you can say about a person’s life by reading their mail and by working with all the other sources and studies out there. Wright takes us deep into Paul’s life, noting what we can firmly understand and what we can at times only speculate upon. It makes for a great read—in fact, an essential read for church leaders to truly understand the author that wrote so much of the New Testament.

Shane writes what may be one of the best books I've read since his own "Jesus for President." He continues in his prophetic role and boldly goes into hot topic territory, bringing both Biblical and historical research as well as story after story to illustrate the importance of life, justice, grace and forgiveness. I rarely feel changed or empowered after reading a book, but Shane somehow pulls it off every time, leaving me with beautiful, holy conviction.

Historia
In This Is Awkward, Sammy Rhodes talks directly, honestly, and hilariously (because sometimes we need to laugh) about the most painfully uncomfortable subjects in our lives. In chapters like "Parents Are a Gift (You Can't Return Them)" and "D is for Depression", he boldly goes where most of us fear to tread, revealing that we can be liberated by the embrace of a god who knows the most shameful things about us and loves us all the same. Because nothing is too awkward for God.

An Amazingly Brutally Honest Book
Revisado: 03-04-16
What did you like best about this story?
This book is well worth the read. Sammy reveals more about his struggles in this book than probably any other Christian book I've ever read, and that's what makes this book shine. He puts it all out there and I think it can only lead others struggling with the same issues towards healing. This is a book we should all read. The church is in need of this kind of refreshing honesty.
Any additional comments?
I will mention, however, that this book is a bit all over the place. I don't necessarily catch the theme, even in ties to the title. Each chapter kind of stands on its own. This doesn't make it a bad book by any means though. And while I like the pop culture references, they happen so often that some of them feel made for the sake of being made.
