Historia
Ryker Waterborn's heart is broken, and his wife is a killer. Their marriage is a sham, built on a foundation of murder, lies, and deceit. They're broken. Destroyed. Yet, even after hearing her confession, Ryker cannot leave Brynleigh in the pit. In an act of foolish love, he makes a deal to set Brynleigh free. All she has to do is go back to her maker and find evidence that Jelisette de la Point is a traitor. That's easier said than done, but Brynleigh is left with no choice. She can either accept the deal or rot behind bars. Worse than all that is her relationship with Ryker.

The lack luster writing
Revisado: 04-02-25
Since when are good plot twists taboo? It seems to be a trend nowadays to hyper focus on the "Ooh I love him" factor over a good story?! I was EXCITED for this book the first one set up so many possibilities... instead it feels like the author just didn't care. Lazy writing, with lackluster story, and the most vanilla spice I have read in a while. This book could have been amazing it Could have had mystery, intrigue a good plot.... but like her maker it got staked with less than mediocrity.

Just NO
Revisado: 07-30-24
I wont lie I was so done with any kind of spicy audio books before I found this. I have listened to spicy alphas, dragons, demons, fairies, vampires, and gods. the repetitive storyline and predictable plots where killing me! Not to mention some of them just over do the sexual scenes and the protagonist are always so wishywashy or straight off head over heals and over trusting. At first they were ok but got old fast. I drive for a living and love to read but never have the time! I had 3 credits I hadn't used because I was in a book limbo trying to find something decent. somehow I was drawn to the title and description of this book and I'm so happy and distraught that I was. The main character is written so well! the push and pull of her relationship with her father tore me open! Her inability to trust and steadfastness once she did was suspenseful! The twists and turns and heartaches were glorious! I cried so hard! I've never seen a character written so relatable! The male lead made my heart flutter and accept as well! nothing here was over done or wishywashy! I am not ashamed to say this book had me in tears today! I now go into the second one with anticipation and a box of tissues! Wish me luck!

omg every chapter
Revisado: 07-24-24
Ok I love spicy books my library is about 75% spice! However this series is about to break me I know I wont be wasting money on the last one. Seriously almost EVERY chapter in the 2nd and 3rd book has practically the same "spice" scene to it! I've started skipping up to 3 minutes every chapter. I can think of no better way to cheaper spice more than it being the same and in every chapter. Adding to that Persephone is so wishy washy!!!! the constant back and forth with every single decision she makes is infuriating and honestly is starting to make less and less sense as the book goes on. Let's also just dive into real fast how weak her and Hades relationship really is in this! It is based all around spice. They constantly berate each other over keeping secrets or important info from one another. They just dont communicate really in any way other than "are you well." I actually like the story in-between the repetitive spice scenes, wishy washy personality, and lack of relationship building but it sucks I have to suffer through 10 minutes of emotional idiocy and 2 minutes of the same scene to get to maybe a minute of interesting story line.

Great story
Revisado: 11-01-22
I honestly love how it splits between 2 narrator's but I wish their would be some kind of tone to signal the switch since both have soft reading voices and it's easy to miss the switch. Anyway this book was quite fast paced with enough description to keep you aware of the surroundings which I greatly appreciate I can't wait to finish the next book in the series!

Still a favorite
Revisado: 10-28-22
I first read the second book in this series back in my junior year of highschool (2008). Over 20 years later and many of my own life experiences I still adore the plucky heroine Jacky Faber and her miss guides adventures! At the rip age of 32 I rebought the entire series for audible because I do data entry and can't phisicaly read the book while working. I was so pleased with the narrator and love her voice for the character Jacky Faber! I am so picky when it comes to audio books that I have passed up other series I enjoyed due to bad casting but this is spot on. The author L.A. Meyer really does throw you into the scene without boring you with excessive detail which is a huge bonus. If there is anything I would have to say frustrates me it's that every single book has to have atleast 1 super inappropriate scene that isn't ok for kids though it should be ok for older teens even if it isn't morally ok in today's age it's realistic for the time.... all that being said I highly suggest this be added to your collection as a good book and great author

Was skeptical but also wrong.
Revisado: 09-29-22
I really was skeptical about this title because usually the books included with Audible aren't usually the best but the title caught my eye and I figured why not. I have to say it surpassed my expectations by alot. I am picky with story lines and extremely so with narrators but this book met my needs. The story line is pretty fast paced and had a good twist to it. the ending left me hungry for more so downloaded the second in the series. If you like fantasy with only mild in story politics this series is for you. If you like magic that is not sparkles and giggles with a main character that isn't all dumb heroics this series is for you. If you like interesting characters that actually challenge the story line this series is for you. I am going on to book 2 with such anticipation!

wonderful year again
Revisado: 07-14-22
I won't lie it was slow to get started for real and it would have been nice to have a little more story play out with the "marriage" to build up more conflict but real life doesn't always work that way I guess. I would love to have a book with her turning into her full necromancer self but I understand if that's outside of the author's wheel house. Regardless it is a nother amazing story from an amazing author I have reread this series since I started it in late middle school and will continue to re read it for years to come

just cant
Revisado: 06-02-22
WHY DID THEY NOT JUST SWING FOR 2 READERS?! The girl who reads it is soooo flat and preppy sounding but I was dealing with it even the TERRIBLE "American accent lines" but then when she tries to do the guys voice at the beginning and it's just aweful! HORRIBLE I really want my credit back that I spent on this just for that. What sucks is I'm sure the story is pretty suhweet! Honestly I can get past mildly bad the voice actors for the most part. I got through all of Eragon it was doable. I got through the Abhorsen series read by Tim Curry (hearing Tim read a series with mostly female leads is a tad disturbing but I got through it!) but this one just makes me want to scream. Maybe it's that this series was recommended and is some of the very few I put on here I haven't actually read myself but somehow I feel like it makes it worse....

Shapechangers. They were the Cheysuli, a race of magical warriors gifted with the ability to assume animal shape at will. For centuries they had been allies to the King of Homana, treasured champions of the realm. Until a king’s daughter ran away with a Cheysuli liege man and caused a war of annihilation against the Cheysuli race. Dumpster Fire
Revisado: 11-30-21
Literally ONLY NEED 2 words to describe this in its entirety DUMPSTER FIRE! I am all for giving a book a chance and the concept is ok but good gawd the way the main character Alex is written is just horrible. She is constantly whining. all the Male characters are written stoic and "macho" with male honor and tribal pride. I honestly couldn't stomachache this past chapter 12. On top of horrible writing the narrator literally voices everything in the same way. Everyone sounds like their trying to be whispering and mystic even when their upset . I expected more from Roberson. I enjoyed her Sword Dancer series and while the character development in it was frustrating atleast it was much more dynamic. Over all I wont be finishing.
