Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

The Bobiverse saga continues with nerd humor
Revisado: 09-16-24
It was with joy I found out the Bobiverse was set to go from a trilogy to a hexalogy.
We are at book five and the fun and humor just keep rolling in, and the deep rich tapastry of Mr Taylor's Cosmos.

Historia
Hilarious, fascinating, and a roller coaster of dizzying, historical what-ifs, Napoleon's Hemorrhoids is a potpourri for serious historians and casual history buffs. In one of Phil Mason's many revelations, you'll learn that Communist jets were two minutes away from opening fire on American planes during the Cuban missile crisis, when they had to turn back as they were running out of fuel. You'll discover that before the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon's painful hemorrhoids prevented him from mounting his horse to survey the battlefield.

Wanted to like it, but it was just a bunch of 2 min factoids
Revisado: 07-16-24
I really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, each one of the stories was really just a small sniglet factoid with no in-depth looking into either the conditions before or the conditions after. Where he had the opportunity to go into some interesting stories and look at the consequences. Instead it was a 2 minute here's what happened, isn't that weird? And then he'd move on to the next story.

Historia
We all remember Oscar Wilde, but who speaks for Bosie? What about those 'bad gays' whose un-exemplary lives reveal more than we might expect? Too many popular histories seek to establish heroes, pioneers and martyrs but, as Huw Lemmey and Ben Miller argue, the past is filled with queer people whose sexualities and dastardly deeds have been overlooked. Based on the hugely popular podcast series, Bad Gays subverts the notion of gay icons and queer heroes and asks what we can learn about LGBTQ+ history, sexuality and identity through its villains and baddies.

Theories based on outdated social definitions
Revisado: 10-19-23
the Quickest way to get me to *snort* at your academic thesis is to use the words "bourgeoisie", "proletariat", and "Marxist liberalism" in an unironic way.
Problem 1) the first two terms were defined by Marx and assume a whole bunch of Axioms that simply have not been shown to actually be true.
Problem 2) and Marxist liberalism exists only in reference to the first two terms, i.e. nonsensical.
you might as well talk about "Mercury is in retrograde" as "They are Bourgeoisie"

It's more a book of poetry then story
Revisado: 10-05-23
It's more a story about the author and his own life as he came to the end of his time studying for his PhD. It is obvious as an author and as a reader and as a high intelligence himself that he was using this book to explore his own personal. Disconnect from the worth of his studies for his PhD.
Unlike his character, Mr. Hoyle did in fact get his PhD, but the issues that he faced at the end of his study were exactly the same ones as our main character. This is more a reflection on what he learned and how he faces the basically uselessness of the six years he spent studying for his PhD.
In his attempts to study the science of consciousness, he came to realize that science could not actually tell him, or even figure out how to describe consciousness in the method in which it works.
He discovered that there is in fact a known phenomenon, consciousness, that science and his opinion at this time with our understanding of theory, the universe, mathematics and logic, cannot be solved with science.
Like the character, he also was a close Co contributor with his mentor in A Fundamental Theory of Consciousness and his PhD paper that he received was from work he did proving that in fact the theory was wrong.
Mr. Hoyle. Is obviously a poet. And a person who shares many of the same traits that the main character has in this book. We shouldn't be surprised that the book ends in a rather unsettled and non realistic way.
Since consciousness is something that exists and yet cannot be proved, can any subject be proved Is the basic thrust of this. What is real and what is not real? Do we exist? Does reality exist? Can you prove one way or the other these are all things that he? Damage in the book and the story is basically a distillation of the answer of no, we can't tell.

Historia
Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

Meh. It was a pot boiler and a "first" novel
Revisado: 11-29-22
OK. So as I read the book, I knew what I was getting into. I had been told by my family that the Jack Reacher books were just a series of potboilers.
But I was assured that as I read it, I would really come to like the book.
However, the narrator wasn't the right voice for the character of Jack Reacher. I couldn't see a young man in his 30s disillusioned. It sounded more like a man in his 50s who was a private detective on the mean streets of Los Angeles. Then a former soldier.
I'm not sure I'm going to read the rest. I need to retalk this over with my family and see if it's really worth any more investment.

Need to be a bronze age enthusiast to enjoy
Revisado: 10-19-22
I gave the book four stars overall. While only two for performance and three for story. So why did I market so high?
Basically because I'm an enthusiastic. Consumer of Bronze Age. Information. Archaeology and history.
If you don't have a passion for this type of subject, then I can't recommend this book. The author would have done better to get a professional reader instead of reading it himself. Unfortunately, he has a lecturer's voice and sometimes can fall into a cadence that is a droning sound that can almost put you to sleep.
On the other hand, the information he presents is solid, well researched and presented in a clear and factual manner.
So if you like the Bronze Age, I must recommend this book. If you like just history in general, you might find this a bit of a slog to get through.

Another fantastic book from Mr Weir!
Revisado: 07-13-21
The Martian was a fantastic first novel, Artemis was a wonderful sophomoric effort, and now Mr. Weir has shown his story telling abilities are not a fluke. Staying with the hard science he is known for he tells a story of First Contact, and world salvation that has you cheering to the end
Special notice to the Narrator, Mr. Porter, Audible productions AND Mr. Weir for making this novel shine with an extra touch of fun as an audible book.
This may be one of the rare cases where the audible version is objectively "better" then the written tome.
Mr. Porter's voice work / talents are no small part of any this book shines as an audible production.

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Gave me great perspective on 2020 campaign
Revisado: 09-16-20
As always a wonderful narration by Scott Brick. Really helped me to see as horribly partisan as the presidential campaign of 2020 is, things have been much worse in the past.
Anytime a Candidate complains of bad press or media betting the enemy of the people, or "no president has been attacked or treated unfairly as much as me..." I snort at their fragility and abysmal lack of historical American knowledge.
