Historia
The Ministry for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us - and in which we might just overcome the extraordinary challenges we face.

Liberals dream future
Revisado: 10-22-24
While an interesting story on the state of our world, the book is a liberal fantasy of a whole “one-world government” approach and love for communism to solve problems. It takes individual freedom and sacrifices that for an unrealistic fantasy, very unrealistic, that a government agency can save the world. It specifically idolizes China, Cuba, and other authoritarian regimes for their control of the people. It sanctions the agency killing, blowing up, destroying their enemy… that’s terrorism. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of the story, a potential for saving world… but sacrificing personal freedoms and making this plan seem like an ideal solution / world is not the way.

Historia
China thought it would be a quick war, an easy war. But now, years later, as the insurgency on the streets of Los Angeles escalates but the propaganda never changes, a Chinese officer can’t keep silent any longer. Torn between loyalty to his country and loyalty to his troops, he writes a brutally honest—and possibly suicidal—letter home to unmask the truth. Brooks combines his signature meticulous research with unforgettable characters in this landmark work of speculative fiction.

Pointless, meandering story
Revisado: 03-11-24
First, the positive: the narrator was a great.
The story, unfortunately, was bad. It goes back and forth on how to use a ship. “This way; how about that way; maybe the other way.” In the end, they make a decision. Nine hours and that’s the story. I bought the second book during one of the BOGO sales.

Revisado: 09-14-22
The story and narration were good but it’s been five years (2017 to 2022) so where is Book 2? It would be nice to know the continuation of the story.

Historia
In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears. Gone. Except for the young. There are teens, but not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no Internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents - unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers - that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world.

Small range of word usage & Narrator = BLAH
Revisado: 05-25-20
I am updating my review (because the first review was done when I was only three chapters in and already realize the author needs a thesaurus).
I now hate the word “said”!!! I blame this on the repeated use by the author and from the way the narrator says it (“Sam saaaiidd, he saaaiidd...) I believe the narrator hates it, too. Come on, Michael Grant, try “Sam exclaims”, “Quinn stated” or “she screamed”... use some variety. The cliches are also thrown about abundantly, showing lack of imagination.
While on lack of something: The Narrator is mundane, kind of boring and makes odd attempts at voices. Some characters sound just like each other, which is confusing because this occurs with male and female characters. The Hispanic character sounds like he is from New Jersey. The characters are all less than 15 years old but some sound like heavy smokers in their late 60's.
Interesting story that sort of reminds me of Stephen King's "Under the Dome" minus adults meets "The Lord of the Flies" set in California.

Historia
It started as a routine Miami to Charlotte flight for the passengers, crew, and Federal Air Marshal Stephen Mason. But a freak storm over the Atlantic propels the airliner unexplainably back in time to the early 18th century. They find themselves on the sparsely populated coast of the Carolina Colony. Charles Town is the only English settlement of any size in the area. It's an inhospitable place of vast plantations, slavery, hostile natives, tall ships, and marauding pirates.

Luck and Inconsistencies
Revisado: 03-02-20
It’s an interesting story with a lot of luck for the characters but the story has some minor inconsistencies. For example, when discussing “a thousand acres of land” the further breakdown of that land is almost equal to three times that amount.

Good Story and Concept; Narrator mispronouncing
Revisado: 02-18-20
I really like the story, especially the first contact and resulting actions.
My only complaint is the constant mispronounced words by the narrator. The worst is "corpsman" or "corpsmen". It should be pronounced similar to Marine Corps (sounds like "core"). The narrator pronounced it as "corpse" (corpse-man or corpse-men). A corpsman is a medic; a corpse is a dead person. I cringed EVERY TIME he said the word. There are others but this particular one was repeated often. To his credit, he did a great job distinguishing the character voices.

Great series
Revisado: 01-08-20
Though the author advises reading the prequel series first, this new series can stand alone. Reading the prequel series does provide a lot AF clarification to understanding the three main characters and the world they live in. It is a great story and each book leaves off at a cliffhanger, making you want to pick up the next book ASAP.
