Historia
Aster lives in the low-deck slums of the HSS Matilda, a space vessel organized much like the antebellum South. For generations the Matilda has ferried the last of humanity to a mythical Promised Land. On its way the ship's leaders have imposed harsh moral restrictions on dark-skinned sharecroppers like Aster, whom they consider to be less than human.

She works at a national newspaper, where she’s constantly forced to compare herself to her white middle-class peers. Queenie. A modern day tale
Revisado: 02-03-20
not what I expected but a very good read. tackles some racial and social issues that are in both the melenated and white community. She also highlights body image issues tastefully. Overall this novel is a book about self care and mental wellness. shout out to the read [crissle and kid fury]. The author also highlights breaking ups and dating. overall a good novel 4.5 stars

Historia
Wayétu Moore’s powerful debut novel, She Would Be King, reimagines the dramatic story of Liberia’s early years through three unforgettable characters who share an uncommon bond. Gbessa, exiled from the West African village of Lai, is starved, bitten by a viper, and left for dead, but still she survives. June Dey, raised on a plantation in Virginia, hides his unusual strength until a confrontation with the overseer forces him to flee. Norman Aragon, the child of a white British colonizer and a Maroon slave from Jamaica, can fade from sight when the earth calls him.

The book of night women.
Revisado: 01-18-17
I loved this book and have read it three times. it introduced me to obeah and myal. I love that Robin Miles narrates with an accent when speaking from the POV of the Jamaicans. there were things that I didn't realize were related until the third time I read the book, such as the relationship between Lilith and Isabelle. The love story was also very intriguing as well. it was overall an amazing story!!! I will likely read it a few more times.
