Historia
Ed Macy had always dreamed of a career in the army, so when the British Army Air Corps launched its attack helicopter program, Macy bent every rule in the book to make sure he was the first to sign up to fly the Apache—the deadliest, most technically advanced helicopter in the world and the toughest to fly. In 2007, Macy's Apache squadron was dispatched to Afghanistan's notorious Helmand Province with the mission to fight alongside and protect the men on the ground by any means necessary.

Seriously?? Couldn’t find a Brit narrator?
Revisado: 06-29-23
Lack of a British reader is a serious and most disappointing failure of production that distracts and disappoints from an otherwise compelling, well-read story. No disparagement of Mr Wayne’s otherwise excellent narration intended. I hang this fail squarely on the producers.

Historia
Holmes twice escaped death as a young Union officer in the Civil War when musket balls barely missed his heart and spinal cord. He lived ever after with unwavering moral courage, scorn for dogma, and an insatiable intellectual curiosity. Named to the Supreme Court by Theodore Roosevelt at age 61, he served for nearly three decades, writing a series of famous, eloquent, and often dissenting opinions that would prove prophetic in securing freedom of speech, protecting the rights of criminal defendants, and ending the Court's reactionary resistance to social and economic reforms.

Wonderful and amazing
Revisado: 03-29-23
The odd squawks and pedantic piffle about no TOC or no titles are well ignored as they have nothing to do with the brilliance of this collection. Just listen and let the DFW prose roll over and through you. Stunning. Enjoy.

Historia
Between the world wars, no sport was more popular, or more dangerous, than airplane racing. Thousands of fans flocked to multi-day events, and cities vied with one another to host them. The pilots themselves were hailed as dashing heroes who cheerfully stared death in the face. Fly Girls recounts how a cadre of women banded together to break the original glass ceiling: the entrenched prejudice that conspired to keep them out of the sky.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

But the vast distances of space mean that the old order of protection and interstellar law offered by Earth has ceased to exist. When a nearby world attacks, the new colony of Glenlyon turns to Robert Geary, a young former junior fleet officer, and Mele Darcy, a onetime enlisted marine.

Tantalizing opener to a new series. More please!!
Revisado: 05-22-17
Love the plot, the characters and unspoken connections across time and space to "Black Jack". If you enjoyed Lost Fleet, Beyond the Frontier and Lost Stars series, and/or the not to be overlooked JAG in Space books, I think you'll find Vanguard a compelling storyline that leaves you waiting anxiously for the next installment. As always, the exceptionally reliable Christian Rummel brings the characters to life with his well developed voicing and perfect pacing. Great job to all and highly recommended.

Historia
When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

An outstanding read. Hard to stop once started.
Revisado: 04-10-17
Excellent character development and compelling interpersonal relationships move the story forward along multiple lines to converge at an unexpected and emotional finish. I felt such deep empathy for some characters and bordered on hatred of others. Together they create a most excellent and entertaining story. Highly recommended. If you enjoy this I also recommend the writings under her alter ego, Robert Galbraith. The depth and breadth of Jo Rowling's work simply astounds.

Interesting plot-line, excellent narration
Revisado: 12-22-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Fast-paced space adventures. Interesting take on future a.i. Can ring a bit hollow on some points, such as "whatever they need they just produce it, poof", but in fairness that's more a comment on the state of the advanced technology than holes in the plot line.
What did you like best about this story?
The approach is very interesting, summed up as, "here's what could happen when human creativity is linked to unlimited computing power/speed, unlimited resources, universal knowledge and, perhaps most compelling, immortality through digital replication of the underlying mind."
Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No - but I will now seek him out. Excellent narration and voicing.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
More like, subtle chuckles, lots of irony and sarcasm, which I particularly enjoy.
Any additional comments?
Good stuff. Waiting patiently for the next installment of the "Bobiverse".

Historia
In the opening volume of his acclaimed American Revolution series, Nathaniel Philbrick turns his keen eye to pre-Revolutionary Boston and the spark that ignited the American Revolution. In the aftermath of the Boston Tea Party and the violence at Lexington and Concord, the conflict escalated and skirmishes gave way to outright war in the Battle of Bunker Hill. It was the bloodiest conflict of the revolutionary war, and the point of no return for the rebellious colonists.

Troubling yet refreshing. The Puritans most certainly did not practice what they preached. I wish this kind of honesty was reflected in our schools. What an interesting conversation that might prompt.

No Bryson?? Alas, another disappointed fan
Revisado: 01-25-16
Bryson without Bryson's voice doesn't work for me. As others have already detailed, his unique voice is essential in conveying the tone of his work. As a long-time fan, I just clicked on "Buy" as soon at this book was released without listening to a sample or paying attention to the narrator. That's my fault for "assuming". This one is being returned for credit. If reissued with Bill Bryson narrating I'll most likely purchase anew. Sorry Bill. I really tried but it just doesn't play properly without your narration.
