Historia
The second novel in the wildly popular First Law Trilogy from New York Times best seller Joe Abercrombie. Superior Glokta has a problem. How do you defend a city surrounded by enemies and riddled with traitors, when your allies can by no means be trusted, and your predecessor vanished without a trace? It's enough to make a torturer want to run - if he could even walk without a stick. Northmen have spilled over the border of Angland and are spreading fire and death across the frozen country. Crown Prince Ladisla is poised to drive them back and win undying glory.

Excellent Followup
Revisado: 10-12-23
The only complaint I have is that almost immediately after the book ends, the Hachette Audio guy jumps right in, ruining the atmosphere and any chance of ruminating on the conclusion for a few moments.
The narrator barely finished the last sentence, and then some rando jumps in like "Show's over folks! GTFO!"
Otherwise, this was an excellent follow up to The Blade Itself. The narrator himself couldn't be much better.

Historia
An American businessman undertakes the restoration of his ancient ancestral home in England. After moving in, he's haunted by strange phenomena, apparently coming from the very walls of the legend-haunted mansion. A team of experts joins him to dig into the centuried structure's shadowed past, and its shadowy cellars. Can the investigators solve the lingering mystery of the grim and rumor-shrouded priory, or are they merely ushering in the most horrific chapter of the house's monstrous history?

Gothic Haunted House meets HPL!

Good, But Not Great
Revisado: 09-25-19
This adaptation is not the best example of what the HPLHS can produce, but it’s enjoyable enough for a fan.
The performances by the various actors range from mediocre to excellent, leaving it feeling stilted at times. The adaptation itself isn’t very engrossing, but I’m sure it isn’t an easy task to accomplish within certain constraints like length and budget.
Their adaptation of The Shadow Out of Time remains the benchmark. That one is excellent.

Historia
"The Silver Key" is a short story written by H. P. Lovecraft in 1926, considered part of his "Dreamlands"-series. It was first published in the January 1929 issue of Weird Tales. It is a continuation of "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath", and was followed by a sequel, "Through the Gates of the Silver Key", co-written with E. Hoffmann Price. The story and its sequel both feature Lovecraft's recurring character of Randolph Carter as the protagonist.

Excellent Lovecraft
Revisado: 08-25-19
This is one of my favorite Lovecraft stories, and I happen to greatly enjoy the narration by Howard King. I can’t place his accent, but I would guess he is possibly Scandinavian or German, speaking British-inflected English. At times he even sounds like he could be from a Southeast Asian country. Whatever the case, I enjoy listening to his reading immensely, and I’m happy to see he has recorded several more stories, which I’m looking forward to listening to.

Favorite of the Dark Adventure series
Revisado: 07-30-19
This is exceptionally well produced and performed. I particularly commend the performance of the main character, but they all do an excellent job with the diction and vocabulary of the time period. It’s quite immersive.
The intro announcer is a bit corny, but if you listen to the other HPLHS radio dramas, you might catch a few references to the “sponsors”, which I found clever.
