It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Excellent series start, worthless end.

Unlike the other books from The Demon Cycle, The Core seemed a bit rushed. That took away from what the book could have been, and left something to be desired in the ending. The book starts well, but it's written differently towards the end, and there is just not as much action or description as one might have wanted, sort of ruining the series for me. I will give it a couple more reads, and reevaluate... However for now it's a big flop.
