Historia
A free society that despises manhood will not remain free. The American Founders believed that a republic depends on certain masculine virtues. Senator Josh Hawley thinks they were right. In a bold new book, he calls on American men to stand up and embrace their God-given responsibility as husbands, fathers, and citizens.

Hawley is a good narrator
Revisado: 07-19-23
I read the book twice because it had such glowing reviews. Another rehash of manhood, with so-called Christian values, and more than enough of a smattering of quotes about Jesus, coaches and other so-called role models. I'm well into my 70s now and my three boys are over 50. I'm just getting the information now as to whether I'm actually a good dad.

Didn’t really love it

I purchased the audible version because of the glowing reviews. The book was acceptable, but quite average. I had trouble with the
narrator’s voice.

Historia
Lauren Boebert is the gun-toting Republican Congresswoman from Rifle, Colorado, who overcame difficult life circumstances to be a leading voice for personal freedom and our 2nd Amendment rights. Raised on welfare in a Democrat household, young Lauren learned from her first job at McDonald’s that she could provide for herself better than the government ever could. My American Life describes in vivid detail why Lauren dropped out of high school, the success of Shooters Grill, and how she came to be a United States Congresswoman.

She has a right to tell her story
Revisado: 08-29-22
I read the reviews which seemed too glowing and the admonition not to be mean. An autobiography at 33 is way too early. I prefer biographies instead in that they more objectively review a life from multiple source over a longer time frame. Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin, Miss Leavitt come to mind. She should have used a narrator. With the exception of Christopher Hitchens, this is usually the better route. She appears to be a devout Christian. She used "heck" a lot but carries a pistol(s) that says I can kill you if I want. She certainly represents a demographic that is under represented in Congress. It is morally incumbent upon her to use this unique position for the public good. When I hear her use the word liberal in a way that sounds like she's spitting out a wad of phlegm it is concerning. It means she's not representing those people that she doesn't agree with. I don't think she realizes that most of the people that were involved in developing the constitution were deists. They thought there was a God but didn't feel that God had personal involvement in their every day lives. They also according to what I've read about Jefferson found a lot of the religious bickering to be cringe worthy. With a little luck, she will mature in congress and use the bully pulpit to do good rather than just stir things up.
A couple of gratuitous ideas: adjectives are the potbelly of good writing. Keep them to a minimum.
If you think you're happy you probably are. If you think you're smart you're probably not. If you think you're a great Christian, I'd look real hard at that.

It dawned on me one day that most of the scare stories in the media today are based on things that are either invisible, like CO2 and radiation, or very remote, like polar bears and coral reefs. Thus, the average person cannot observe and verify the truth of these claims for themselves. They must rely on activists, the media, politicians, and scientists - all of whom have a huge financial and/or political interest in the subject - to tell them the truth.

Hyperbole
Revisado: 01-22-22
Why put a book on audio format if you’re not going to have a narrator is understandable. The audio made it very difficult for me to sustain the attention I needed in order to capture the points that Patrick Moore was making. It sounded as though what he was trying to say was the climate change people are zealots and often overstayed their position. That’s a good point and one certainly they should take into account. However, I’m not sure it’s a conspiracy.

In Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, he explains why race does not really exist; evaluates the true promise and peril of genetically modified food; reveals how new species are born, in a dog kennel and in a London subway; takes a stroll through 4.5 billion years of time; and explores the new search for alien life, including aliens right here on Earth.

Have you heard that language is violence and that science is sexist? Have you read that certain people shouldn't practice yoga? Or been told that being obese is healthy, that there is no such thing as biological sex, or that only White people can be racist? Are you confused by these ideas, and do you wonder how they have managed to challenge the logic of Western society? In this probing volume, Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay document the evolution of the dogma that informs these ideas, from its coarse origins in French postmodernism to its refinement within activist academic fields.

Years ago I had a friend with a PhD in English who had a side-gig re-writing manuals for Chrysler Corp so they were accessible and readable. I've listened to several hours of this book and have decided to turn it back in. I think the ideas are good and valid, but the language is unnecessarily impenetrable.

Has Satan successfully led most Christians to give more credibility to the institution of science than the Bible? Today many Christians regard evolution as nothing more than God's method of creation. In this Christian apologetic resource, Morris boldly challenges this anti-biblical and even anti-theistic philosophy; an imagination or high thing exalting itself against the true knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5). Dr. Henry Morris presents the theory of evolution as one of Satan's most devastating attacks against the Church.

This guy is/was a solipsist. I painfully listened to most of it. He was kinda like an evangelist who had one word no one else knew and used it to sound intelligent. Cosmogony was the word. There was no "argument" in the debate sense of the word. Plenty of "argument" in the sense of two guys in a bar arguing about religion.

READ AS OPPOSITION RESEARCH
Revisado: 06-30-21
The most positive thing I can say about this book was the narrator was very good. As the headline implies I was curious about this author since he is running for governor of Michigan against an actual governor. I am always concerned when an author has "the answers" that have been hidden from us by the liberals.. My concern moves terror when they begin to spout religious dogma as if it is science. I read some of the other reviews that were much more positive. I read them before I read the book because I thought it would help me take a less cranky posture towards" biblical child rearing". Well I still have my crank. I believe the Dunning Kruger article is available online for everyone to read. The thumbnail on Dunning Kroger is essentially that the smart have doubt and caution as their superpower. Author is Big fan of Donald Trump who also could write a parents guide to raising successful children. Whether not you are in capable or successful parent until your kids are at least in their 40s and 50s. If you're talking about being an expert and your kids are not even out of high school, you are quite premature.
Just saying!

Follow New York Times best-selling author Mary Roach - but be careful not to trip - as she weaves through personal anecdotes and everyday musings riddled with her uncanny wit and amazingly analytical eye. These essays, which found a well-deserved home within the pages of Reader's Digest as the column "My Planet," detail the inner workings of hypochondriacs, hoarders, and compulsive cheapskates. (Did we mention neurotic interior designers and professional list makers?) For Roach, humor is hidden in the most unlikely places, which means that nothing is off limits.
