I know there are usually good twists and turns in Frieda McFadden books so I was waiting for it. I thought i had it figured out but I was really wrong and pleasantly surprised when it all came out.

gag and boo, so disappointing
Revisado: 07-23-21
If you like ridiculous teenage angst love stories you'll love it. I did not. I listened to the 1st book and was intrigued. I really like the other books by Tarryn Fisher so I was expecting twist and turns. The 1st book had it, I wasn't even annoyed when it finished and I had to get the 2nd book. About halfway through I realized where the story was going and prayed I was wrong. I mean it's Tarryn Fisher, her books are weird but really good (I've listened to two other books by her). When part 2 finished I didn't think I would listen to the 3rd but I had already purchased it ( thank God teach was on sale for like 3 or 4 dollars) so I listened. Seriously... I believe in true love and soul mates, I really do, but this story was just missing Ursula the Sea Witch.
Buy it on sale or check it out from your local library. I hope to forget I ever read it in the next 48 hours, lol.

Historia
Twenty-five years ago, Maggie Holt and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. Three weeks later they fled in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His horror memoir of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity — and skepticism.

I didn't see it coming!
Revisado: 07-09-20
This is a great story. I didn't want to stop listening. I finished it in 2 days!! The story flows easily and there are so many twists and turns you just don't know what to believe. I don't scare easily so this book did not scare me, however, I can see how someone more sensitive would/could get scared. The story was so well told I felt like I was watching a movie. This book will not disappoint!

Not completely what I expected
Revisado: 06-26-20
I really enjoyed this book, including the narrator. I've read a lot of negative comments about the narrator sounding bored, I disagree. I thought the narrator did a nice job, I heard the perfect amount of inflection, and he did a good job distinguishing the different characters.
The story isn't quite what I expected. Yes, it is a prequel, it does explain how the hunger games developed into what it became when Katniss went through it, however, that really is a small part of it. There is so much more.

Revisado: 05-03-20
I almost didn't buy this book because some of the reviews were so bad, on the other hand, some of the reviews were fantastic. I admit I was intrigued by the idea that this was a polygamy story. It isn't! That is all I'm going to say on the subject. I loved this book because it was unpredictable. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen I was completely surprised. This is a great suspenseful book.

Revisado: 04-27-17
Mr. Coben mentions this is one of his first books and if you haven't heard/read any of this recent books then don't read this one. I thought this was well written, a lot of the story was predictable but the main climatic turn was a surprise, just like all the other stories I've read of his. I am curious about a couple of things in the story but can't really mention it without ruining part of the story for someone else.

what a waste of money
Revisado: 03-28-17
This book was a first edition sale. I'm not sure it was the first book for the author or the narrator, either way, It was long, boring and simply awful. The narrator always sounded upbeat, the story is about a school shooting! The narrator is reading the story like she is an elementary school teacher trying to teach students to read with inflection. The story had so many unnecessary details, they didn't help to build the story or the characters. I listened to multiple chapters without actually knowing what the chapter was about. it seemed like the author didn't have anything else to say so suddenly she wrapped up the "mystery" in the last two chapters.
