Historia
Sy Montgomery's popular 2011 Orion magazine piece, "Deep Intellect", about her friendship with a sensitive, sweet-natured octopus named Athena and the grief she felt at her death, went viral, indicating the widespread fascination with these mysterious, almost alien-like creatures. Since then Sy has practiced true immersion journalism, from New England aquarium tanks to the reefs of French Polynesia and the Gulf of Mexico, pursuing these wild, solitary shape-shifters.

Historia
Professor Theo Cray is trained to see patterns where others see chaos. So when mutilated bodies found deep in the Montana woods leave the cops searching blindly for clues, Theo sees something they missed. Something unnatural. Something only he can stop. As a computational biologist, Theo is more familiar with digital code and microbes than the dark arts of forensic sleuthing.

Up then down
Revisado: 05-24-18
I started out really liking this book. The plot was interesting and engaging. About two thirds through, however, the plot went downward like a runaway train. I understand that fiction requires some creative license but this story strayed so far from believability as to become distracting and eventually disappointing. Cannot recommend

Historia
Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Historia
The bestselling fitness book for men who want to gain 25-35 pounds of lean muscle and lose as much fat or more in just 3-5 hours per week—and without giving up delicious foods or doing grueling workouts. Is Bigger Leaner Stronger a body building book that can help you pack on brain-shrinking amounts of muscle in 30 days flat? No. Is it a fitness nutrition book full of dubious diet and exercise “hacks” and “shortcuts” for melting belly fat faster than a roided hornet? Absolutely not.

Pretty good
Revisado: 08-06-16
To be honest I didn't expect much from this book. I've read a couple of the author's short ebooks and wasn't impressed. But this book is actually pretty good. I personally did not learn a ton from this book, but I've been working out for a number of years. But for someone who is relatively new; the recommendations are reasonable and the program should get you results. I like that it doesn't require a lot of time and sticks to the basics. Overall it was written fairly well and I liked the narration. Things I didn't like. He cites research but it's just a sampling of research. It would be relatively easy to find other research not supportive of his views. Second, I think his understanding of insulin and the role it plays is relatively simplistic given recent research. Third, he should have spent some time discussing t-levels in men; particularly middle age and above. The benefits of an intense program like this will be limited if t-levels are low. But I would recommend the book for people looking to start exercising or for those that have been disappointed in their results from exercise.

It’s the rule - always watch your Fives and Twenty-Fives. When a convoy halts to investigate a possible roadside bomb, stay in the vehicle and scan five meters in every direction. A bomb inside five meters cuts through the armor, killing everyone in the truck. Once clear, get out and sweep twenty-five meters. A bomb inside twenty-five meters kills the dismounted scouts investigating the road ahead. Fives and Twenty-Fives marks the measure of a marine’s life in the road repair platoon.

Revisado: 04-08-16
I mistakingly thought this book was a non-fiction memoir when I purchased it. I like that genre because it provides many opportunities to learn new things. While a product of fiction, this novel still contained that aspect of education. The story was balanced and very compelling. Fantastic narration! I highly recommend.

The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Great beginning; disappointing end
Revisado: 04-01-16
I thought the first half to two-thirds of this book to be engrossing and I was inclined to root for the main character. By the end of the book, I was thoroughly exasperated by the incessant negativity and angst. The last few chapters were basically a non-coherent stream of various metaphysical nursing that I had a really hard time sitting through. This novel took itself so seriously it ran straight into the land of pretentiousness . I will not be recommending this book to others.

Passed the time
Revisado: 03-02-16
Literary brilliance this was not, but listening to it easily passed the time. Not a lot in the way of depth or character development, if those things are important to you. Narration was good, though not remarkable. Got this book in a $4.99 sale and definitely worth that price.

Unique and Imaginative
Revisado: 08-05-15
I think this is a great novel, and the characters resonated with me. Narration was superb. I didn't give the story a full 5 stars because the author engaged in a writing habit I hate: namely, having the characters interrupt the flow of action to ramble long explanations for the purpose
of tying up loose ends. Seems like this author is talented enough to tie some things together in a less predictable and clunky way. Still, definitely recommended!
