Historia
He started the fire. Nate Shepherd's client didn't intend to kill anyone. That doesn't matter. After an old friend recruits him, Nate Shepherd heads north to defend a teenager charged with igniting a blaze that killed a toddler and a firefighter. When he arrives, Nate finds a neglected case and a looming trial date for double murder. As he scrambles to discover what happened, Nate is resisted by a stonewalling prosecutor and a grieving town, each bent on punishing his client. Worse, every fact Nate uncovers confirms that his client started the tragic Mission Road fire.

Held my interest from beginning to end!
Revisado: 11-27-24
The story line of Cruel Sentence was engaging and the characters were well developed I thought I had it figured out and then it took a shift so I couldn’t put it down. I especially enjoyed the way that the lead character Nate Shepherd overcame the odds and his questioning of witnesses had me rooting for g for him. Love the Nate Shepherd character and his cast of family and friends.

Historia
Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

I like the premise that books can carry the feelings of a reader or the writer. The story kept my interest and i enjoyed the intertwining of 2 stories. Loved the characters and I also became invested in the story of Bel and Hemi.

Historia
On a remote Scottish island, the McBride house stands guard over its secrets. A century ago, a young widow and her son died mysteriously there. Just last year a local boy, visiting for a dare, disappeared without a trace. For Zoe Adams, newly arrived from America, the house offers a refuge from her failing marriage. But her peaceful retreat is disrupted by strange and disturbing events: night-time intrusions, unknown voices, and a constant sense of being watched.

Good mystery but some gratuitous sex
Revisado: 09-10-21
Throughout the the book I couldn’t stop thinking, if the protagonist is American and the story is told from her perspective, why is the narrator speaking with a British accent? The narrator’s voice is lovely and the tone fit the mystery novel, but since she was telling the thoughts of the American it didn’t fit for her to speak with a British accent. Also some of the words and phrases when Zoe spoke were British, although she spoke as Zoe, the American accent was good. Unlike others, I thought all the other voices and accents were good. I think this all may be because the author is British.
The storyline held my interest. I was a turned off by the sadistic sex, like others. I don’t like to read or hear sexual violence especially if it is not especially key to the plot. However, it was not pervasive and the fact that my curiosity led me to keep going to solve the mystery attests to a successful storyline that pulls you along.
Spoiler Alert: I felt unsatisfied with the ending. It seemed to end quickly and the whole scene where the young teacher dies seemed wrong, but then I figured he needed to die or she would have all kinds of complications with her pregnancy…paternity tests and all that…although that could have been the sequel, haha. And of course we needed the ambiguity of whether it was his baby or that of the incubus. Not really into demons and such, but it did all fit together in the storyline. It still held my interest to the end and given the parallels of Zoe’s story and the McBride history it was a given she’d end up pregnant, couldn’t end any other way.

The narrator ruins the book
Revisado: 09-10-21
This is one book in a clean romance series. It is possibly an enjoyable easy read, but not an enjoyable audible book because the narrator is terrible. All his voices sound like cartoon characters and the dialogue is stiff and unnatural. The romantic lead in this one, Dr Doug sounds like a goofy cartoon character and Veda, a female character sounds more masculine than Dr Doug. The minister sounds so nerdy that he ruins what should be should be sage biblical references and advice. If you hope to enjoy this series, read it, don’t listen to it in audible.

I enjoy the humor with which the characters deal with serious issues and the story was enjoyable. Xe Sands’ voice fits perfectly with the character and her delivery of the humor is perfect. A few twists add a bit of tension and the lessons learned are valuable.

A good mystery within a coming of age story
Revisado: 04-23-20
Ordinary Grace is a good story that keeps you engaged and involved with so many rich and realistic characters. Although it was told from a young boy’s perspective I was able to relate to Frank’s character and found myself completely involved with the entire family. I enjoyed the way it was told, especially as an audible book. Well done and enjoyable.

Interesting story concept
Revisado: 11-20-19
It is an interesting story line about the choices we make and how they not only change our life but impacts the lives of those around us. I enjoyed the method of playing out the different paths simultaneously so that we can see how one choice leads to other choices, and so on it goes.
It was well written and was very well narrated. I was only bothered by the fact that Ethan was in both paths and yet in one, they cannot live without each other and on the other, they become friends. I think if you meet a person who is everything to you and you love each other, that attraction and the draw to each other will be there whenever you meet. And if she was attracted to Henry, and she meets him they would be drawn to each other. Perhaps that is the romantic in me drawn to the idea of soulmates, but I would believe that it makes sense that although their paths changed on how to get there, they still would have ended up together. Now if their paths changed so that in one path they never met, then I would believe in the Henry relationship working out. I have often looked back at decisions I have made and wondered how it all would have worked out if I had made different choices, so I still enjoyed the journey with this book.
