Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Historia
In 1978, the bloody conflict in Northern Ireland, known as The Troubles, had reached a boiling point. Hundreds of members of the Irish Republican Army, determined to drive the hated British out of the province—killing soldiers and police, detonating bombs, while arming themselves with firearms and explosives—had been arrested and incarcerated in the notorious British prison known as the Maze.

One man’s journey through the troubles
Revisado: 07-28-24
Through the story of a single story of a Northern Ireland resident the author is able to weave a cloth of the complexity that was the six counties during the later decades of the Twentieth century. A fair and balanced examination of an individual case, that highlights the efforts of both rebels and loyalists and how one largely innocent person can be caught up in events beyond their own control. Informative and heart wrenching certainly worthy of a read, especially for the younger generation seeking to understand “the troubles” and their impacts.

Historia
The first Plantagenet king inherited a blood-soaked kingdom from the Normans and transformed it into an empire stretched at its peak from Scotland to Jerusalem. In this epic history, Dan Jones vividly resurrects this fierce and seductive royal dynasty and its mythic world. We meet the captivating Eleanor of Aquitaine, twice queen and the most famous woman in Christendom; her son, Richard the Lionheart, who fought Saladin in the Third Crusade; and King John, a tyrant who was forced to sign Magna Carta, which formed the basis of our own Bill of Rights.

DisneyWar is an enthralling tale of one of America's most powerful media and entertainment companies, the people who control it, and those trying to overthrow them. It tells a story that - in its sudden twists, vivid, larger-than-life characters, and thrilling climax - might itself have been the subject of a Disney classic - except that it's all true.

Same story different decade
Revisado: 06-11-23
Overall worth the time it takes to listen to. Performance is very well done. Storyline is a unique mixture of nonfiction and fiction. The story link to the previous
Kingsbridge books, but on the downside the themes and characters of this book is not unlike the previous two and is getting worn. I hate to say it, but if you listen to one book in the Kingsbridge series you have heard them all.

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Pillars Recycled
Revisado: 08-08-22
Firstly, I am a huge Follett fan, and I greatly appreciated his The Pillars of the Earth. However, I must confess that I found World Without End a bit tired with a storyline that seemed too reminiscent of the characters and themes found in Pillars. If you choose to read either book, you will find them enjoyable; you may not want to read both.

Highlights the Evolution of AirLand Battle
Revisado: 09-03-21
Unfortunately, this story is nothing provides little new information about the storied life of General Donn Starry. While providing a sound biographical picture of Starry as he rose through the ranks in the Cold War era, the author fails to objectively examine the assertions made throughout the book. This work does provide a solid summation of the evolution of modern Army doctrine from active defense, to AirLand battle, leading to today's concepts for fighting large-scale combat operations. Likewise, the author highlights Starry's key roles in doctrine development and his defining role in the organization of US Army Training and Doctrine Command.
You can never read too much about a dynamic leader like Donn Starry.
