Historia
Charlotte, now the Countess of Wrexford, would like nothing more than a summer of peace and quiet with her new husband and their unconventional family and friends. Still, some social obligations must be honored, especially with the grand Peace Celebrations unfolding throughout London to honor victory over Napoleon. But when Wrexford and their two young wards, Raven and Hawk, discover a body floating in Hyde Park's famous lake, that newfound peace looks to be at risk.

Not Just the Book
Revisado: 02-27-23
The book was very entertaining. Great characters. But there is also the reader. It is very hard to believe that the whole range of distinctive voices is from just one person.

Just couldn’t get into it
Revisado: 06-08-22
I just couldn’t get a sense of this story. I am not certain if the reason is because of the writing style or because I am not understanding why the author is telling this story in this manner. It just didn’t capture my attention and imagination.

Historia
The latest occurrence to disturb the peace in the quaint English village of Walmsley Parva hits rather too close to home - in fact, the prime suspect has taken up residence in Edwina's potting shed. Her elderly gardener Simpkins has been secretly sleeping there after a row with his disreputable brother-in-law and housemate, Hector Lomax. When Hector is found murdered, Constable Gibbs comes looking for Simpkins, last seen arguing with Hector the night before. Based on the sad state of her garden, Edwina has grave doubts that shiftless Simpkins could muster the effort to murder anyone.

A super fun read!
Revisado: 12-29-21
The twists and turns of the plot will keep you guessing up to the final wrap up. But narrator, Barbara Rosenblatt, is, by far, one of the best readers in the business. Her pacing and character voices are perfect for each character and makes the reading very understandable. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an entertaining read.

Difficult to listen to.
Revisado: 11-08-21
I had difficulty in listening to this narrator but I was not sure if it was the recording or my ears. I usually like Ian Rankin’s books, so I tried different reading rates and speakers/earbuds but I just couldn’t understand much of the story and finally gave up before finishing it.

Riveting twists and turns
Revisado: 11-30-20
Mentally damaged, seemingly unconnected, women are interwoven in this highly charged plot. The women who have been damaged by their lives' experiences are unable or unwilling to help themselves as they run toward their fates. The characters personalities have been well developed so that the reader can understand the motives and fatal flaws. Readers will have a difficult time in putting this book down.

Historia
When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town. But for Detective Sergeant DC Smith, due to retire in just three weeks' time, there are some strange echoes of the case that has haunted him for the past 13 years. Maybe it's simply his over-developed sense of irony, or maybe, in his final days as a police officer, Smith must look once more into the eyes of a serial killer.

Read these in order
Revisado: 05-01-19
The DC Smith series is one of the best British mystery series. The books are not just plot; there are interesting believable characters and thought-provoking themes. The audio version is read by a man who would be a strong candidate if there were an award for besr reader.
But be sure to read the series in order. Plot threads carry over into subsequent books.

Historia
Only 22, Emma learned to bake at the side of a master, Ezra Kuchen, the village baker since before she was born. Apprenticed to Ezra at 13, Emma watched with shame and anger as her kind mentor was forced to wear the six-pointed yellow star on his clothing. She was likewise powerless to help when they pulled Ezra from his shop at gunpoint, the first of many villagers stolen away and never seen again. In the years that her sleepy coastal village has suffered under the enemy, Emma has silently, stealthily fought back.

Historia
The winds of change are blowing through Thebes. A devastating palace fire has killed the Eighteenth Dynasty’s royal family—with the exception of Nefertari, the niece of the reviled former queen, Nefertiti. The girl’s deceased family has been branded as heretical, and no one in Egypt will speak their names. But this changes when she is taken under the wing of the Pharoah’s aunt, then brought to the temple of Hathor, where she is educated in a manner befitting a future queen.

Intrigue and Politics
Revisado: 07-07-16
A riveting tale of intrgue and political maneuvering, this novel tells a fictional story of a real Egyptian princess who becomes wife of Pharoah Ramses. Many aspects are supported by facts in archaeological records and is referred to by the author at the end of the audio book. Enjoy going back into time to what may have been.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

A sudden fearful ending...
Revisado: 04-16-16
Excellent narration. Good development of some of the characters but clumsy or lacking development in orhers. The story concept is good with enough morality but without being preachy. Biggest problem is the abrupt ending; the conclusion is satisfying but the reader is left wondering, not about the "after" which can be filled in by imagination, but just the abrupt ending. I had to re-read the ending several times.
