Historia
This pioneering account sets out to understand the structure of the human brain - the place where mind meets matter. Until recently, the left hemisphere of our brain has been seen as the "rational" side, the superior partner to the right. But is this distinction true? Drawing on a vast body of experimental research, Iain McGilchrist argues while our left brain makes for a wonderful servant, it is a very poor master.

Historia
On Mars, the harsh climate could make any colonist turn to drugs to escape a dead-end existence. Especially when the drug is Can-D, which transports its users into the idyllic world of a Barbie-esque character named Perky Pat. When the mysterious Palmer Eldritch arrives with a new drug called Chew-Z, he offers a more addictive experience, one that might bring the user closer to God. But in a world where everyone is tripping, no promises can be taken at face value.

PKDs best!
Revisado: 01-24-23
This early novel deals with the big questions; displaying PKDs exceptional creativity and imagination. I like this novel better than Electric Sheep and others made more well know through TV and movies. It explores our purpose and identity. Incredibly relevant almost 60 years after publication.

What Protestants Don’t Know
Revisado: 06-17-22
Hart’s excellent summation, both scholarly and well told, brings to light the rich and diverse history of Christianity, especially before and beyond modern western culture. I especially appreciated Hart’s hopeful, though not naive, perspective of history, today and the future. The narrator was superb.

Historia
Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

Good performance by the reader. Some amusing parts in an otherwise over geeked lame yet pretentious narrative. Seems like the author was trying for a movie contract.

We are at war. Not with a foreign government or domestic terrorists or a creepy new artificial intelligence hell-bent on taking over the world. No, it’s a war we feel deep inside our own chests: we are at war with lies. The problem isn’t so much that we tell lies but that we live them. We let them into our bodies, and they sabotage our peace.

Historia
Sparking a flurry of heated debate, Hannah Arendt's authoritative and stunning report on the trial of German Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann first appeared in The New Yorker in 1963. This revised edition includes material that came to light after the trial, as well as Arendt's postscript. A major journalistic triumph by an intellectual of singular influence, Eichmann in Jerusalem is as shocking as it is informative - an unflinching look at one of the most unsettling (and unsettled) issues of the 20th century.

Gripping, shocking and highly relevant. Arandt’s insight and analysis of the trial from historical, legal, social, philosophical and even, implicitly, religious viewpoints is game changing. This book should be required reading to graduate high school for everyone in the world.

Historia
In Love Your Enemies, New York Times best-selling author and social scientist Arthur C. Brooks shows that treating others with contempt and out-outraging the other side is not a formula for lasting success. Blending cutting-edge behavioral research, ancient wisdom, and a decade of experience leading one of America’s top policy think tanks, Love Your Enemies offers a new way to lead based not on attacking others but on bridging national divides and mending personal relationships.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

A powerful telling of the evil and disgrace of human exploitation and injustice. I’m so thankful to people like Bryan Stevenson, who not only fight injustice, but get the truth out into the bright lights of public scrutiny.

Revisado: 11-09-17
I was very excited to try this book. But it took only a few minutes of listening to see that there was no insight or human understanding to be found. It might make a cliche sci-fi book, but to take on serious pretensions is an offense and insult. If this is what MIT Physics Grads are up to, then we are in more trouble than I thought. Least anyone think there's nothing better, please consult Lost in the Cosmos by Walker Percy.
