Historia
Nicole Cassidy is a witch descended from the Greek gods...but she doesn't know it until she moves to a new town and discovers a dangerous world of magic and monsters that she never knew existed. When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in 3,000 years, Nicole and four others - including mysterious bad-boy Blake - are gifted with elemental powers. But the comet has another effect - it opens the portal to another dimension that has imprisoned the Titans for centuries.

Is it the story or the narrator???
Revisado: 04-22-24
Although I must admit to being disappointed with this series, it occurred to me that it may not be entirely the author's fault. My issue with these books is that the characters are incredibly whiny and overly dramatic throughout every scene. But, by Book 2, I found myself realizing that the narrator has a lot to do with that. Every bit of dialogue, along with every thought in the main character's head, is delivered as though it's bursting with emotion and angst. It never stops, and it drives me crazy. I started to imagine the words being read without the added angst, and realized that a lot of the whininess disappears once you extract the narrator. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of overly dry narrations that come off as robotic and monotone, but this particular narrator takes it to the other extreme. It's like she's trying win an Oscar with every sentence. I find myself wondering if getting these books on Audible instead of on Kindle was a serious mistake. The stories would be more engaging (and less ridiculous) without the narrator's constant over-acting. I hope the author has chosen another narrator for her other series, as that's the only way I'll be able to listen to more.

Historia
Gwen Conway never knew there were so many ways to die. Honestly, it was something she would have been happy not knowing. Maybe they really are just dreams. Nightmares. But they won't stop. And dreaming of her death is getting old. Then there's the sleepwalking. She'd like to pass on that too.

Great characters
Revisado: 08-30-15
This is such a great story. Gwen, the main character, is quirky and really likeable, Allistair feels like the perfect father-figure, and Rafe is the bad boy who gets you with a wink of his eye. All of the characters are really well-developed and a joy to follow.
The story is exceptional. Time travel can be a difficult topic to do well, but this author handles it so well you can almost believe everything is entirely possible. Her writing is crisp while still being descriptive, making every scene come to life.
I can't wait for the sequel.
