Lost interest after 25%
Revisado: 04-08-25
Narrators were fine, but story wasn't able to hold my attention after 25%. Too complex, detailed and monotonous

Historia
In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting. The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.

Suspense with a mix of horror and sci-fi
Revisado: 02-28-23
Short chapters, lots of edge of your seat suspense, otherworldy witchy happenings. I was completely swept up! Katie and Libby captured my heart - strong, capable and self-sufficient. Narration was excellent.

Fast paced and twisty
Revisado: 11-09-21
For me it was a crazy, fast-paced, easy to get hooked on the plot kind of book (say that fast 3x)!
Holly's husband dies in front of her during a hit and run. Someone knows who the guilty driver is and sends in a "fixer". No worries he promises and the scene is set.
The twists come rolling in and the last chapter has a sense of urgency as things are revealed.
Enjoyed it a lot!

Historia
Samantha Raymond's life has begun to come apart: her mother is ill, her teenage daughter is increasingly remote, and at fifty-two she finds herself staring into "the Mids"—that hour of supreme wakefulness between three and four in the morning in which women of a certain age suddenly find themselves contemplating motherhood, mortality, and, in this case, the state of our unraveling nation.

Political commentary, Bias opinions
Revisado: 09-08-21
Had to give up on this early due to the author's bias and political commentary. NO ONE cares how you feel, everyone can vote they way the choose!
