The reader was fantastic. I started listening to another reading of it, but it was terrible. This was very entertaining.

A new JS novel used to fill me with joy, now they're mailed in. And you had one of the great readers of all time but now in a book supposedly about a totally implausible female character they used a mediocre male voice actor? Do you hate your audience?

Historia
Former US Marine Jess Winslow reenters civilian life a new widow, with little more to her name than a falling-down house, a medical discharge for PTSD, and a loyal dog named Lucy. The only thing she actually cares about is that dog, a pit bull mix who helps her cope with the devastating memories of her time in Afghanistan. After 15 years - nearly half his life - in state prison, Mason Burke owns one set of clothes, a wallet, and a photo of Lucy, the service dog he trained while behind bars. Seeking a fresh start, he sets out for Deception Cove, Washington, where the dog now lives.

Historia
Jack Slade and Sam Healey, flying partners during World War II, establish a bush pilot business in Alaska after the war. When their C-47 Dakota is forced down on a glacier by a wolverine in the cargo deck that breaks out of its cage, they discover a valley that offers the realization each man's dreams. To Jack Slade, it’s the ideal place to homestead, raise a family, and live simply as a professional hunting and fishing guide; to Healey, the pool of crude oil he locates under the glacial ice promises the wealth he always wanted.

Historia
Cready Marsen wants two things in life: South Florida sunshine and a mountain of money. Living on his 47-foot trawler at Dinner Key Marina gets him sunshine, and his work as a private investigator who reclaims stolen goods outside the bounds of the law brings in cash, but it requires every bit of Cready’s skill, guts, and questionable morals. When a scummy businessman offers Cready work with a big payout, he happily accepts. The job’s tricky, but nothing he can’t handle. At least, until his client’s daughter gets involved.

Who's up for a half hour with commercials tv show plot, undeveloped characters who's motivations and relationships make no sense and has the least well concealed plot twist in literary history? Well look no further this one's for you. Nick Sullivan is probably the best narrator of audiobooks out there so it has that going for it.

I've enjoyed the other books in this series but this one feels mailed in. The author didn't do the work of tying the characters together making me care about them or believe their motivation. I'll probably get the next one but if it isn't better....
