Historia
On the morning of August 12, 2022, Salman Rushdie was standing onstage at the Chautauqua Institution, preparing to give a lecture on the importance of keeping writers safe from harm, when a man in black—black clothes, black mask—rushed down the aisle toward him, wielding a knife. His first thought: So it’s you. Here you are. What followed was a horrific act of violence that shook the literary world and beyond.

An immensely personal memoir
Revisado: 08-16-24
One of our true treasures of literature opens a window into his personal journey with the unjustifiable violence that comes with lunatic ideology and does so with such grace, humility and humor, it is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Thank you, Mr. Rushdie. I can’t wait to purchase your next book!

Historia
Carlos Santana’s Light, Spirit, and Soul is a rhythmic journey into the places, spaces, artists, and music that have inspired and informed one of popular music’s most successful artists by any measurable standard. He’s not an entertainer. He’s a communicator of a language that speaks directly to the molecules of listeners across space and time. These are his Words + Music.

Elegance and Excellence
Revisado: 12-14-22
I’ve enjoyed Santana since I was a kid. Watching Carlos play inspired my journey on the guitar and the quest for a tome that connects the head through the heart to the soul. Hearing Carlos talk about his journey is an example of seeking a grateful life and living fully.

In Act III, we follow Morpheus on a grand journey to take care of family business. He visits with his son Orpheus (Regé-Jean Page), an act that brings with it profound consequences. Accompanied by Delirium (Kristen Schaal), he tracks down their estranged brother, Destruction (David Harewood), the only member of the Endless ever to abandon their post. And at an inn at the intersection of all worlds, a group of travelers are forced together by a storm that threatens to destroy reality itself, with grave repercussions for Morpheus and the rest of the Endless.

A dream of an audio experience
Revisado: 12-14-22
Gaiman really never disappoints me, but the production of The Sandman series on Audible is unique to storytelling. I’m a little too young to remember huddling around the radio waiting for War of the Worlds or the Jack Benny Show. I expect this is and will be as close as it gets to that feeling. It is the gold standard. Good on you all if you enjoy the triumvirate of Graphic Novel, Audible presentation and Netflix adaptation. Frustratingly good.

In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

I'm constantly amazed
Revisado: 11-03-21
Over the years, I have developed a healthy appreciation for the razor sharp, creative, impish mind of Neil Gaiman. I try to enjoy a broad range of authors, but a new work by Mr. Gaiman never ceases to peak my interest and very, very rarely disappoints. That said, I can't imagine what it must be to propose converting a graphic concept piece, like The Sandman, into a spoken word work of art. That's just what has happened in this offering. Thankfully for all of us who chose to spend our 13 hours in thie variety of worlds created by these talented people. I have to imagine that each and every one of these A list actors chuckled softly to themselves, quietly acknowledging that this is why they chose to do what they do. Gaiman is likely the pinnacle of creative minds to me, who has, once again, crafted a timeless gem. The actors were masterful. It kind of makes me think what it must have felt like for my relatives, before tv, huddling around the radio for a new installment of their favorite show. It's just so good! I want to bottle Neil Gaiman's psyche and love of mythology and sprikle it in my morning coffee. I couldn't have liked it more. Now, I want them to craft a graphic novel so I can see how my dream gets interpreted again and again. This might rival American Gods and that's saying a whole lot!

A decent listen
Revisado: 06-21-05
This was a decent distraction and a brief glimpse into the mindset of dedicated martial arts training. The story is a bit predictable and the reader's use of accents is laughable at times. Even though, the story has a pretty good pace and is worth a listen if you are a martial artist or have some interest in basic martial philosophy.
