Historia
Williston Bibb Barrett is a rather unusual and inquisitive young Southerner with a special gift for cultivating the possibilities of life. He suffers from occasional bouts of amnesia and disconcerting attacks of déjà vu. He clings to certain old-fashioned notions of behavior, and yet he finds himself constantly impelled to eavesdrop on other people’s conversations. And he lives with the secret suspicion that the great world catastrophe that everyone fears will happen has already happened.

Percy Walker, as far as I can tell, can do no wrong. The narrator had good chops. I really enjoyed it!

More commentary than text
Revisado: 05-13-24
I thought I was getting the text of of the KN, but it turned into Bob Marley’s analysis of scripture in his sing lyrics. In between was a mix of scriptural reading and author anecdotes in Jamaica. Interesting, but not what it suggest it is by the title, etc.

Historia
The internationally renowned novel about the life and death of Jesus Christ. Hailed as a masterpiece by critics worldwide, The Last Temptation of Christ is a monumental reinterpretation of the Gospels that brilliantly fleshes out Christ’s Passion. This literary rendering of the life of Jesus Christ has courted controversy since its publication by depicting a Christ far more human than the one seen in the Bible. He is a figure who is gloriously divine but earthy and human, a man like any other - subject to fear, doubt, and pain.

A moving portrayal
Revisado: 04-13-24
If, as the Bible says (paraphrasing), that Jesus was tempted in all things, then the temptations deployed in this fictional account seem rather reasonable. It was not created to be another gospel, and the author expressly denied that the book is a biography. The author chose the best character he could have chosen to handle the topic of temptation: the flesh vs. the spirit. Someone who overcame it, of course. I love the book. I’ve read it before, but had to get the audio to listen to it at a different time in my life.

Historia
Here to rescue the reputations of our Founding Fathers from the plague of modern political correctness is The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Founding Fathers. Author and Professor Brion McClanahan shows how patriots like Franklin, Madison, and Hamilton laid the foundations of American civil liberty and had a better understanding of the problems facing us today than our current Congress.

Dr McClanahan has done America a great service. While I don’t expect any “National” reform, it at least delegitimizes the reign of corruption under which we live. After all, if they are not following the law as ratified by the several sovereign states, they are robbers and pirates.

Historia
The fate of the Lost Ark of the Covenant is one of the great historical mysteries of all time. The Bible contains hundreds of references to the Ark's power, but the Ark itself mysteriously disappears from recorded history sometime after the building of the Temple of Solomon. After 10 years of searching through the dusty archives of Europe and the Middle East, Graham Hancock has succeeded where scores of others have failed. This intrepid journalist has tracked down the true story behind the myths and legends - revealing where the Ark is today, how it got there, and why it remains hidden.

Speculative, but that’s the fun!
Revisado: 10-13-22
A personal quest to find and see the Holy Ark of the Covenant, Hancock explores many places, documents, and sites that he weaves a fantastic speculative account of the whereabouts of the relic that is quite possibly true—but is it probable? I’m not qualified to say, but as a book it is engaging, exciting, and entertaining! I can’t ask for much more than that. 5 stars!

Life changing
Revisado: 11-16-20
One cannot read this book and remain unmoved. The cruelty inflicted upon the cast of characters is unconscionable and sickening, but are the direct result of an ideology overtaking the minds and institutions of a country. I fear that while this may be the Russian/Soviet past, it is not so in the West. It may well be it’s future.
God save us from such a fate!

Historia
Richard M. Weaver taught English for many years at the University of Chicago, returning home to Weaverville, North Carolina, each summer to plow his ancestral land. Out of his love of language and devotion to tradition, Weaver developed profound insights into the nature and the purpose of life. Ideas Have Consequences is the fruit of these twin disciplines. In what has become a classic work, Weaver asserts that the catastrophes of our age are the product not of necessity but of unintelligent choice.

Essential reading, prophetic
Revisado: 01-17-19
A book that should be read and re-reread (or listened to repeatedly). It has so many important insights about the world in which we now live that almost every sentence could be reproduced as a stand-alone quote.
Modernity and its monstrous assemblage of fallacious ideas that have, indeed, had their consequences. Bad ones.
This book could have been written by a contemporary, but was actually published in the 1940s; hence, it is in many ways prophetic.
Weaver saw the trajectory and we live in the world he feared would come to pass unless humanity once again found its center...
Weaver, a Southerner and associated with the Vanderbilt agrarians, but this book is read by a Brit with surprisingly good affect.
If you don’t have a background in philosophy, particularly the Greeks and, to a lesser extent, the Medievals, it might take some unpacking and require some outside reading on unfamiliar persons &/or topics, but you will be better for it!
I wish more books by Weaver were available on audio. This is the only title I have found...
