tiny complaint for a lovely story...
Revisado: 08-14-22
There were a couple of places where you could tell the narrator had misplaced the emphasis.
That said, the story was a delightful surprise, fresh and not in the least cloying. A refreshing change from most of the love stories I've encountered recently.
Also, despite my "tiny complaint", Phillipa Soo was an excellent choice for narrator.

wonderful narrator despite a couple of slips
Revisado: 09-02-21
Love the coffeehouse mysteries! Cleo Coyle keeps coming up with fresh ideas. My one wish is that she write a cookbook so her readers would have the opportunity to taste the many fabulous foods with which she tantalizes us.
Rebecca Gibel does a fantastic job distinguishing between characters, and I could listen to her read the phone book with enjoyment.
However, at the climax of the book , she apologizes (for what I suspect was reading a misprint as written), then rereads rhe sentence. Also, in the epilog, she reads the same sentence twice. Both of these errors should have been edited out.

Would have benefitted from more editing.
Revisado: 05-02-21
Good YA romantic-paranormal story, but this book would have benefited from more editing or workshopping. Many times the word choices were jarring; the use of oppressed for suppressed especially.

Historia
Filled with magic, heroism, and all-too-human characters, Bujold's Sharing Knife saga is both a gripping adventure and a poignant romance. The farmers and riverfolk have long distrusted the power of the mysterious and aloof Lakewalkers. The proud Lakewalkers, meanwhile, have exiled Dag after learning of his marriage to Fawn, the first outsider to be bound to a Lakewalker in their magical way. But as Dag's natural Lakewalker ability to manipulate "ground energy" begins to develop in dangerous directions, he and Fawn realize that big changes are ahead.

Technical difficulties
Revisado: 12-15-20
I'm enjoying this series and the world it's set in. The magic system is unique, and extremely well balanced. The disparate cultures are logical and feel like they arose organically. The wordiness and repetitive descriptions discussed by other reviewers did not catch my attention until the third listen. Even then they didn't detract from the story, but only felt like a storyteller's device.
However, there's a weird technical glitch at the start of every chapter of the 3rd book. If I'm listening to more than one chapter at a time, the recording skips the first 5 seconds of each chapter. I have to skip back to catch them. Usually no big deal but sometimes you miss nuances by missing those seconds, and if your hands are busy, you can't always spare one to rewind.

Excellent Narrator Brought The Story To Life
- De M.A. Wilson en 11-09-14
worst production values ever from Audible
Revisado: 04-08-15
What would have made Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart and Other Stories better?
better production values
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I've loved these stories for 40 years, and this is the first time I have had a hard time getting through them,
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Earl Hammond?
The narrator was ok, I don't have a better candidate in mind.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart and Other Stories?
none.
Any additional comments?
This recording sounds like a bad 8-track tape on a dying player. In some places, the recording was so garbled I could barely understand the words. This was a waste of money!

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-08-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The book continually refers to the PDF companion to the book. However, no PDF companion comes with this book. With the PDF companion, I would have given this 5 stars.
What did you like best about this story?
Fun facts, presented with humor and in layperson's language.
What about Sean Runnette’s performance did you like?
Expressive and easy to listen to. I will be looking for other books narrated by this reader.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from What Einstein Kept Under His Hat?
none
Any additional comments?
I considered getting the Kindle version but no PDF companion is mentioned in the Kindle description, and since that's the only thing I really want from it I don't care to spend the money.
